and this to help. i already see time traveling robots causing trouble

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/12/...hting-machine/

actually it just dawned on me, cell phones are common, cell phones emit gps signal and usually tell people where you are, that can be used to tell where to deliver your package at a certain time of day. use what already exists to solve a problem

tizeye has it right, currently it is illegal per the FAA. The aerial photographers in the RC hobby have been battling it for years. Many folks whom have started trying to do a little commercial work for real estate have been shut down by the FAA.

Then again, those were individuals. You all know how big money and big companies get things they want in this country.

As someone else into the hobby of RC flying, I think the use of "drones" would be a very bad thing not only for the hobby of RC but also for the safety of people.

For the record, the term "drones" that has been popping up in the media recently this past year is wrong. This idea by Amazon would be correct in using the term "drones" because that term indicates completely autonomous. Tizeye mentioned that he mounts a GoPro on his helicopter/multirotor and takes aerial footage. That is just flying RC and taking aerial footage. There is also FPV (First Person View) in which folks transmit the video feed to a ground station and view it live and fly "from the cockpit" via either a monitor or goggles with monitor screens. The media portrays any story that has an RC aircraft in it as a "drone" and it is giving RC a very bad rap. Those in the RC hobby really do not like the term "drone" as it gives thought to military drones and such.

Tizeye mentioned the kid who nearly cut his head off (no decapitation, but he was killed by the incident if I recall,) there was an incident in the news of a multirotor crashing into the spectators of a sporting event, I don't recall hearing of it but Tizeye mentioned crashing into a wedding party, these all were not drones. All they were were RC aircraft, piloted by ignorant people, but just RC aircraft none the less.

The Amazon idea though is autonomous and I feel is a threat to the RC hobby of which I am a part of and the FPV RC hobby of which I want to get into in the near future all of which is regulated by the FAA and lobbied by the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics.)

I would want amazon superduper prime, where I get my own personal drone to accompany me everywhere, and run and fetch whatever I want whenever I want it. I picture this pairing up w/ the fulfillment centers moving from buildings to blimps/airships, that can relocate to wherever there is the highest density of personal drone activity.

anyone who thinks bezos and this initiative is serious is being an idiot. not only does amazon not talk about its technological and logistical inventions in public, they definitely don't do it years before possible implementation. everything about a drone as a delivery vehicle is absurd and it won't work. the whole piece on 60 Minutes was probably purposefully recorded and aired on sunday night because it was the night before cyber monday. and it wasn't very informative it was a 20 minute amazon commercial to get you to use it on cyber monday.

there won't be any delivery drones.

I put this idea right up there next to a 3D printer in every McDonalds.

And I think the MickeyD execs don't know diddly about 3D printing. If they did, they would have never announced it.

3D printing is too slow. It's way more expensive than the Happy Meal toys, 3D printers are fussy beyond the comprehension of the average McD's counter staff. I could go on.

More noise pollution to go with the lawnmowers, leafblowers, weedwhackers, constant local construction projects, our neighbour cleaning his driveway with a shop vac... it never ends.

I work at home and like to leave the window open when the weather's ok - so a particular sensitivity here!
