Ford Mustang turns 50

Not sure if this goes in the "Beautiful Cars" thread or the "Not so beautiful cars" thread...

Good question. It looks unhappy.

It's not that bad looking, in my opinion it looks better than the current Camaro, which to me looks like the designers were tripping on some cheap drugs from the 60's.

As long as they don't bring back the horrible style of the 73-78 models. Those were sad years for the mustang.

I think they called it the Ford Probe, combined with a marketing budget of $0 for the Mustang as Ford tried to kill the Mustang. Didn't workout too well did it.

Hey, that was my son's first car. A $500 junker that he could learn on, that I later sold for $600. Did much better on my daughter's first car, a '72 Beetle, that sold for a $1500 profit.

I have a friend that modifies the current Mustang GT's with a supercharger, exhaust tuning and modified suspension. I think he said they are getting 620 HP out of it and just under 600 ft/lb torque. I want one.

Isn't that about the same hp as the Porsche that was just in a horrific crash and burn accident?

That, I don't know. The only Porsche I have ever owned was a 914 and that was an anemic performer. Fun enough to drive though.

I kinda like it. I owned a 1998 Mustang Cobra from new until 2012, when someone hit and totaled it. It was a great car; good looking, very fast, reliable, and cheap. The aftermarket business for these cars is huge, allowing one to customize their car any way they want. I looked at some more photos of the 2015 car on one of the auto trade sites. I may have to get my second Mustang when it comes out.

Well according to Wiki its 5.7 liter engine produces 612 h.p.

Dear Santa,
I want a 71 Mach I please.
Also a late 60's convertible, maybe '67 for going to the beach.

Back then, unlike now, there was a cooler alternative from Ford, namely the Capri.

The thing that has remained pretty constant is that Japan makes nicer cars than Ford, even when Ford builds them in Germany.

Maybe I am missing something, but the google images that just turned up look like a messed up looking Mustang II.

My first car was a '67 Mustang (used). Beautiful bright aqua green, black interior, V8, auto with A/C. Destroyed one year later by a hit and run driver while it was parked on the street. I still miss that car.

The Ford Capri (over seas name) and Mercury Capri (state side name), although somewhat styled after them, are not Mustangs. They are much more closely related to RWD Escorts.

The first Capri's were pretty nice looking.

The Capri was Mercury's Mustang...it was a mustang in different trim, and later on, it had a slightly detuned motor.

You're talking about the second gen USA Capri, which yes, was a Mustang. During the time they were sold, Europe was still getting the cool ones.

72 Mach 1 fastback for me.

My grandmother had 2 Mustangs... an early-80's 4-banger that she and my mom tooled around Orange County with us three kids in the back (with no car seats-- le horreur!), and then a '98 V6 that was her last car before arthritis and Parkinson's caught up to her and she had to give up the keys. I flogged that thing for a while in college before Grandpa sold it on to one of his golf buddies.

I just watched this the other night. Pretty interesting, although it predates the current generation.
