My wife certainly does not baby the thing and drive it like a lady. She is Danica Patrick in the thing and still averages between 25 and 27 mpg. I've yet to see below 25 in it.

Because it's pulling around half a ton more brick-shaped curb weight

Gearing, areo dynamics, engine mapping, so many variable add to fuel economy. My lifestyle sort of needs an SUV or truck, as I am very involved in scouting and we have boys who are 9 amd 12 so the scouting will continue for quite a few years I hope.

a) buy a pre-2005 Tacoma 4-door (you know, for kids), or
b) Just break the law and import an Australian Ford Ranger or Holden Crewman Cross, or perhaps a VW Amarok, OR...
c) buy an AWD CR-V and a cutting torch and make a 4-door pickup out of it.

Or wait for the Scion truck?

Perhaps the CR-V might be better looking, particularly if I used a 2nd-gen (pre-2007) CR-V as the donor.
