Why no one thought of this
 
After watching a number of videos of air crash disasters, and the explanation of the crash through investigation of the black box data. How is it that the aircraft manufacturer cannot put small CCTV at various locations so that the pilot can see outside the plane? If there is a problem with no 3 engine which is on the tail fin, if they have a small camera on the top of the fuselage, the flight engineer can visually confirm from his monitor if a foreign object have struck the engine, or if there is a fire, and take the neccessary action.

From the cockpit, the pilot cannot see the flaps or the engines under the huge wings. So by putting some cameras below the fuselage, they can see the problem. Instead of relying on instruments that say oil pressure is falling, or that we are not getting a response from this part of the plane, the engineer can see the cause of the problem, like maybe, it hit something and the hydraulic fuel is leaking. Or that there is icing on the wings.

Maybe even equip the flight attendents with portable cameras that can transmit pictures to the cockpit, so that the pilots can be aware of potential problems inside the plane. These cameras can be kept at the crew station and if there is situation, they can record and transmit the information to the cockpit. Like maybe from the windows they can see that the engine is on fire, or the flaps have broken off, they can video it and transmit this to the flight engineer video screen.

A commercial plane costs millions of dollars and lawsuits from an aircrash will eventually cost them even more than the costs of the cameras.

If there is an engine fire on a plane, I'm pretty sure the passengers will mention it to a steward.

While in certain situations it might be worth it, I'm not sure how valuable such information would be to a pilot. If an engine shuts down, the actions a pilot would take would be the same regardless of the cause. Where cameras might help would be underneath if they suspect landing gear hasn't fully deployed or a flat tire on take off. Not a pilot, but I assume they have indicators in the cock pit for that as we'll.

There are little cameras on newer planes like the A380

You need a small, cost-efficient camera, but also the wiring to run the signal to the cockpit and a display screen to view it. Then consider how long it takes to engineer a plane and how long we've had cheap digital cameras and LCD screens. It'll happen though.

Perhaps it's time to upgrade the Cockpit Voice Recorder to Cockpit Video Recorder. Just have a small camera that records the activities in the cockpit prior to an air crash will definitely help the air crash investigator determine if there are external factors that could have contributed to the incident. Perhaps even a camera that shows the pilot's point of view. Sometimes the pilots may be flying through fog, thick clouds and heavy rains that may affect his visual judgement.

Now cars have little cameras that mount onto the rear view mirrors that can record the traffic accident for insurance claims. I don't see why they can't do it in a multi million dollar aircraft.

Those cameras have come into existence (and have been more importantly certified for flight) only in the last few years and on newer (and by coincidence larger) planes like the A330/340/380 and the 777/787.

You can't just slap a GoPro on the top and call it good if you want to carry paying passengers. There is a flight safety certification process for this sort of thing, and it takes time.

For landing gear a view could actually be dangerously deceiving. The issue is deployed and locked in place. A view looks just fine if everything but the locking is done and that means a collapse of the landing gear upon landing.

Yeah... somebody should rappel down the fuselage and try to yank it out... is the only way to be sure.
