How to make a messenger bag & hip pouch! **Let's learn together**
So I've been trying to figure out how to make a messenger bag and hip pouch, but feel pretty lost. Lots of people have done it, but the tutorials are usually around some stuff for the commoner, and not those rugged bikers. I also feel like it's a secret for you to figure out yourself (except for Leif Labs http://www.leiflabs.com/sewing.html
), this guy is just super cool for posting almost everything you need to know.
So this thread is meant to be a step-by-step instruction. You'll also get to see how ridiculous I can be and me going through all my pains of trying to figure out how to do this on my own
That's why I need you!!
And the other people that are going through the same as me. I really want to start my own bag company here in Malaysia, and I hope it to be something they can afford because it rains a lot, and they don't have any waterproof bags or pouches. I'm also hoping this will put me in a line of work where I can spend more time in the biking community and can get the time to start something like a Bike kitchen here.
So here are the links I've found, and yes i LIKE smilies
My biggest questions are how to figure the dimensions for the pattern so the flap will be wide enough for the hip pouch? How to make a padded shoulder strap and the different ways to attach it? (Leif Labs vs Chrome strap attachment) Also, how to make the adjustable shoulder strap and how to attach it? How to do pockets and the best way to put them on?
I'm still looking for my prototype material (used banners), but will start my first paper bag tomorrow. I look forward to hearing from many people. You can also email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
