Stoopid User Accounts

I have 3 people set up with their own password protected accounts on my laptop. Mine is the Admin and each of the kids are Standard (non-Admin). For some unknown reason, neither of the kids can sign on to their accounts now- and this is the second time for the boy.

I just updated and currently running a full scan with MS Defender and will report findings in a couple of hours or so.

Did you set them to "Change password on first login" when you created the accounts and they did not do so?

No. I assigned their passwords and told them I would delete their account(s) if they were changed.

You know, you could probably write a script to do that for you... ;)

... is the keyboard sticky and y'all don't know it?
... did MS Defender or some other software set a funny group policy?

Keyboard is not sticky. Ever since the last laptop got doused with apple juice by The Troubled One, I tend to freak out whenever I see any container of food or liquid near my machine.

They can enter their passwords, but then the log in screen goes away and the screen goes dark (not sleeping or off, though).

Is this XP? Seems to me there is some odd windows bug out there that makes this happen.

Windows 8. Haven't gotten around to 'upgrading' to 8.1 yet.

Virus scan completed and turned up nothing.

Both accounts are now accessible after a Windows Update. Unlike Vista, which would update/reboot by itself whenever "patch Tuesday" came around, W8 does exactly that- it waits and informs you that it will reboot itself in 2 days to finalize updates if you don't save your work and do it on your own before then.

So now I don't know if there was something wrong with their accounts and was fixed by the update(s), or maybe there is a feature that locks those accounts out when there are updates pending.
