How Many Rum Balls?

Do you think I'd need to eat to get a buzz on?

We don't do rum balls here but we were having a conversation over Christmas about how you would explain to a police officer that the smell on your breath was from eating petit-fours.

Well, much of it depends on your tolerance for alcohol. Fortunately, women seem to respond better to alcohol.

According to Emeril Legasse, 1/2 cup of rum is used in 5 1/2 dozen rum balls. So that's 4 shots in 5 1/2 dozen, 0.727 oz per dozen, or 0.06 shots per rumball.

I think you're going to have to do some serious research and let us know the results.

Never had rum balls... are they soaked in rum or what? If they are cooked, isn't the alcohol cooked off?

I myself like my Rum straight. If worse comes to worse I'll use Coke.

Rum balls aren't cooked. The ingredients are mixed together and then chilled in the refrigerator to firm up enough to roll into balls.

If you're looking for a buzz, make sure whoever made them used real rum instead of rum flavoring.

Wow, OK thanks. I'll have to look for these next holiday. I tend to favor Mexican Wedding Cookies myself... no rum though.

I ate two, no effect. I didn't want to try my luck at work. They were made with spiced rum. Soooooooooooo good!

I have had some quite tasty bourbon balls. They were essentially a chocolate truffle with bourbon in them.

The answer to how many rum balls one should eat is the same as the answer to how many bikes one needs - N+1.

I can't believe I'm late to this party. The Rum Balls I had were hollow, with rum on the inside. No cheating to eat half. And to answer your questoion, if you don't eat for a day before, probably not very many. All that sweet choloclate and rum should just turn you into a buzzing freekish wired adult in no time.

Can't wait to see the sugar crash and hangover. Send us a picture.
