Dash Cam

Just got my Russian meteor inspired dash cam and for fun will post daily screen shots of drivers who are up to no good.

From this mornings commute:
Speeding red light runner who was way, way late to the party.

Nice. Been thinking about one for myself for awhile now. Too many crazies out there. I'm kind of scared I'll incriminate myself though, lol. What kind did you get?

I got the http://www.ojocam.com/single-channel/

Has GPS and lots of features and was under $100 shipped. I will splurge on a two channel one soon so I have front/rear video.

Looks pretty good. Crazy how inexpensive the technology has gotten. And I know you can even get super cheap ones for under $50

That happens quite a bit nowadays, pretty scary. I had it happen to me on the way home yesterday, except the truck had a trailor behind it.

So does it auto start... or how do you engage it? Do you have to erase the video or does it just overwrite... how much actual drive time will it record? How do you retrieve the video?

It seems to do everything. Auto start, looping, overwrite, etc...as it is set now, I just start the car and drive and it gets the video and audio. The manual is not so great but I was able to get it configured to my liking and going in a few minutes. I did have to buy a 32GB Sandisk class 10 microSDHC card and it works great with it. the files are big and I already had 10GB of them in two days.

You can either plug the camera directly into your pc/laptop or pop the memory card out and plug into your pc. The unit comes with a player that shows the Google maps and speed, etc...you can screenshot (like I did in the first post) from the player. I am having a hit and miss experience with the map feature. You can also just play the files in quicktime. What is nice is that is has a tiny screen so I can see that it is recording and that the GPS is detected. It has a crazy amount of features like g shock, auto record if it detects motion. I am pleased with it.

I run a dash cam in my truck. Here's a few examples of what I've captured.

And this guy who had no idea he was on candid camera.
