So is anyone going to watch the Olympics?

I watched a little of the snowboarding and team ice skating events last night.

I think the stories of the unfinished accommodations are going to overshadow the sporting events, though.

Artkansas 02-07-14 09:10 PM

My TV reception is very weather dependent. The colder it is, the fewer channels I get. Tonight, it's snowing and all I get is ABC. Right now, I can watch a lady who gets panicked about eating rice.

roadfix 02-07-14 09:12 PM

I want to catch that one Olympic ring not light up.

Once the action starts the focus of the critics will shift to the sports. Same thing happened in Vancouver.

jdon 02-07-14 09:54 PM

Sure. I like sports.

My wife has the same eating habits (disorder).

i would if there was a way to actually watch them all. NBC's coverage is absolutely awful, and always has been. If they are going to air across their multiple channels, they should just put aside all regular programming all day and run nothing but the Olympics AS THEY HAPPEN, in full. But no, they air a handful of the other events, and then the main garbage at primetime loaded with Bob Costas and commercials. I hate it. It's almost offensive because if I want to watch the hockey match between Jamaica and Antarctica at 3:30am local time, I should be able to goddamnit.

mtbikerinpa 02-08-14 01:13 PM

I hear you there. They advertize being able to watch on the website selectively but I have yet to look at it personally. This is the first year of being able to have time at home to actually see the stuff primetime. Usually I end up getting a work assignment in the way(though when I was a Kmart clerk I would "straighten" ;) electronics when certain events were on...

I have to admit, if NBC was my only option, I wouldn't watch it either. Fortunately, we have Canadian coverage that covers most events regardless of who is in them.

trackhub 02-08-14 05:50 PM

I stopped watching when someone decided not to permit the female figure skaters to wear the almost-non-existent
costumes. And that pretty much killed my only interest in it.:notamused:

katsrevenge 02-08-14 05:57 PM

Nope. Human rights issues and they are slaughtering stray dogs.

ilikebikes 02-08-14 06:12 PM

Nah, the media screwed it up for me. I found myself watching and waiting for an explosion instead of enjoying the events. Way to go news media! :thumb:

Leukybear 02-09-14 01:20 AM

Haha nobody watches the winter ones!

Machka 02-09-14 05:40 AM

Yep ... I'm especially enjoying the Canadian performance. :)

Go Canada!!

I may be wrong but I don't think the athletes, IOC or media outlets are. If you want to protest Russian authority, just don't attend.

Same happened in China as well.

Seems like Russia can't catch a break in the American press.

I think it was very poor form for the President not to show up.

To answer your question, I am watching. Can't wait for curling.

i agree 100%. Bob Costass is unwatchable. His yammering is offensive...and jet black hair, on a 62 year old man, is just unnatural.

leob1 02-09-14 11:15 AM

I'd watch more, and care more if they didn't show figure skating at all. The coverage is like the olympic figure skating show. A great disservice to the other sports and athletes.
And ice dancing is just ridiculous.

Shifty 02-09-14 01:44 PM

I'll be watching some of the events, I like cross country and speed skating events mostly. The ski venue is nice, beautiful place and snow looks good, so far. I watched the women's Skiathon (cross country classic and skate combo), it was great. I missed the Biathlon, may try to see a stream of it if it's available.

Screw the politics, I love watching the competition and seeing the sports that are rarely televised. GO World!!!

Shifty 02-09-14 01:49 PM

I agree that NBC coverage is awful, why do they do this after making such a commitment to the games. I have Comcast, so I'll try to watch some of the streams there, but last time Comcast was pretty f**ked up too.

20grit 02-09-14 02:15 PM

There is an nbc app that let's you watch events live and recorded. Has a lot more than what is on tv. You have to put in your cable/dish info though.

+1

There is so much boring TV on (how many cooking and pickers shows can a person watch??) ... I look forward to things like the Olympics, Tour Down Under, etc. in order to have something different to watch for a few weeks.

What pisses me off is that on my dish system they have a special channel to go to to find Olympic coverage.

All it has is a static list of channels that 'have' coverage.

4, 105, 159, 208 and 209.

Note that have is in quotes. So far absolutely nothing on 105, 208 and 209.
