The biggest in terms of time commitment is boating. It's an every weekend activity for nine months out of the year. It's also like a floating condo so we go there even when we don't leave the dock. The good part is I combine it with cycling. That means getting laughs in my cycling clothes from all the people leaving at 7:00 for fishing with their breakfast beer

Here are things I do outside of cycling, which takes up most of my time.

Sports:
Weightlifting
MMA
Snowboarding

Hobbies:
Photography
Building Models

Been playing the guitar for about 10 years now, and recently started playing airsoft. I also target shoot and load my own ammunition, if that counts as a hobby. Hobbies be expensive, can't afford as many as some of you :D

AERO63 02-28-14 11:06 AM

Golf
Archery
Hunting
Fishing
Red Sox Baseball

cbr9927 02-28-14 11:08 AM

Watching TV- ;)
Motorcycle riding

bonz50 02-28-14 11:08 AM

homebrewing
coaching youth football
shooting/archery/hunting
snowmobiling
motorcycles (on and off-road)
guitar

is sitting on the patio on a hot summer day with a cold margarita in my hand a hobby??

coaching is about the only thing I do lately though, we're a year-round football house, 2 boys go to private QB coach during the off-season and I work with them indoor to reinforce what they are learning and prepare their diet and weightlifting regimens around it. 3 young kids (one disabled), work, and day to day life eats up EVERY second of my day.

I'm a nationals level slalom skier. I've got a world ranking but down the list enough that I won't qualify for the Sr World Championships this year. So hopefully, I'll be able to qualify when they're held again in 2016. Cycling is part of my training off the water.

Sinnman 02-28-14 11:23 AM

Other than cycling:

- Coaching my son's hockey team
- I play hockey with a bunch of similarly aged and (un)skilled guys.
- Drinking beer with aforementioned guys
- Homebrewing
- Camping. Well, RV-ing actually. I'm not sleeping on the ground for anyone.
- Photography
- Reading. I enjoy biographies and WWII history.

Ride the trainer/rollers in the winter. Ride the roads in the spring/summer/fall.

Cheers!
K

You'll have to let me know where you shop! I'm budgeting around $2K for my next ride. And my shop kills me on tires, tubes, repairs, clothes, replacement parts, etc.

Other hobbies? You'd probably find a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts on here. I am one of ‘em. Love my RC51. Also I am a passable guitar player. I try to practive every day.

And I notice this thread is started by a Kiwi? I love to travel, and I am headed to NZ in the very near future! Can’t wait!

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I've spent well over $1,000 on cycling gear this month alone (and I haven't been out on a ride since October), but when I actually go out on a ride it doesn't cost me anything.

As for expensive, track days between tires, brake pads, rotors, insurance, and track fees can easily hit $1000 a day. And that's a fraction of the cost of actually racing.

I've wanted to get into that because it looks like freakin' amazing training, but frankly I find the gym I visited a little intimidating. But maybe I was just being a head-case. Everyone there seemed super polite. Just really intense.

Yeah, I did one track day and after not coming up with the scratch for another in the next few months I kinda thought, wrong hobby for me. I'll stick to sport touring.

In my head that plays out as the gym members yelling very loudly things like,"HELLO, HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY! EXCUSE ME LET ME HOLD THE DOOR FOR YOU!!" Something tells me that is not what you meant though.
