Instant karma for tailgating pickup driver

No bikes so I'm guessing this won't last long (and maybe someone already posted it and had it taken down). However, given all of our issues with motorists and the videos we've taken and shared, thought many would find some consolation in this.

Saw this on Yahoo. Yeah,he's a tool, but so is the woman videoing it. Notice, she's in the left lane. Slower traffic is supposed to keep right. She also speeds up when he tries to pass her. And she's also using her phone while she's driving. She's even turning around in her seat to get him on video.

Hoping she gets written up as well.

So what you're saying is if you're doing 60 in a 55 zone passing a bunch of cars doing 55, and some idiot comes up behind you at 80 you should accelerate to his (illegal) speed and risk getting ticketed? No way, I always slow down/brake check dicks like this.

First,I thought I read on Yahoo she was driving the speed limit. Second, she could've just moved to the right(YMMV,but brake checking is illegal here). Third, she was doing other unsafe/illegal things.

I think both of these people should have been ticketed
Both were in the wrong

Still kinda funny though

And as far as the brake check comments go
I have seen brake checkers get punted across two lanes of traffic
And the police didn't buy the dog, rabbit,or kid story
and now with traffic camera's every where ??

She probably should have moved over, however, it looks like he was tailgating her before she may have been able to safely do so (it looks like he squeezed in between the truck on his right and her as soon as he could). Also, this was a surface road, not limited access. Could she have had a left turn coming up? My guess is that she was a bit of a tool herself, but that doesn't excuse his actions in any way and, technically anyway, it looks like she was obeying the law (and sadly we don't have any left-lane laws in the U.S.)

According to what I read. She was waiting for a turn less than a half mile after the accident and she was doing speed limit on a wet road. She pulled the phone out after a few minutes of the guy tailgating. Now, all of us would have done the same if it was was us. She wanted this guy documented in case. And it turned out to be a good idea. The guy also ran from the scene after the idiotic move. And she didn't speed up as he tried to pass. He rounded her and started to harass her. Thats why he wrecked.

When faster traffic comes from behind, it is nice to switch to the slower, right lane (or left in Enlgand) and let them pass. Those who don't do it are being rude, inconsiderate.

It doesn't matter if you're going (over) the speed limit or not - that's for the traffic cops to worry about. Maybe someone is sick, or in a hurry - or doing police work, whatever.

Both drivers in the vid are jerks IMO.

that is a pile of bull... speeders generally don't give a crap about others, so if I know that a left turn is coming up and there are a lot of drivers that feel the need to go 10-15 mph faster than the limit, I take the first break I can to get in the left lane and if its a bit early for the turn, so what? they can frickin' wait for me... and actually to post what you did (which totally feeds into the motorists being impatient and willing to do unsafe things just to save 30 seconds). I am somewhat appalled...

And I think this helps explain why we have the the most dangerous roads in the developed world. A little consideration for others isn't a bad thing.

You're 100% correct but there are so many idiots on the BF that want to blame the "victim" that it's kind of sad.

Tailgating in a parking lot with some barbecue before the game is more fun ..

wonder if the guy in the center lane was already at the legal speed limit , (looked like the Burbs)

so the concept of pulling into the outside lane to let some fool
exceed the safe speedlimit was not his top priority.

According to one news report, the woman was doing 50 mph in a 55 mph zone (pretty high speed limit for that road). she had moved into the left lane preparing for a left turn. After several seconds of the guy on her ass, she started recording. The guy had plenty of room to just pass in the right lane and go on his way. The guy passed her flipping the bird and then slowed to make sure she saw the bird a second time. The guy then takes off swerving as close in front of her as he could, then looses control and crashes. He then fled the scene.

The video is what got the guy arrested for his extremely dangerous road rage.

And yet, some here want to blame the woman. Imagine how bad the blame would be here if she had been cycling.

This was some 40 seconds earlier (at least, didn't see he turn the whole video, until she stopped). That is a bit too early. Almost one kilometer. The guy behaved like a jerk, but she was driving badly IMO. In Germany, when you hold the left lane like that, people just turn their left turning signal on, leting you know they want to pass. People move over and let those pass. In Italy, even women drive great and there was no need to do any signaling - they just move over to left lane only when passing. In my country, people tailgate you and flash their lights for you to move over.

Yes they can, but why should they if it's not necessery? I can ride my bike in the middle of the left lane, but never do so - it would be rude IMO.

I think you lost all credibility with this statement. Please edit your post to remove this sexist statement; the implicit assumption that women would categorically be worse drivers is not appropriate, nor founded to my knowledge.

California Vehicle Code, Section 21654:

Quote:
21654. (a) Notwithstanding the prima facie speed limits, any vehicle proceeding upon a highway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at such time shall be driven in the right-hand lane for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand edge or curb...
Get off your passive-aggressive high horse.

Oh, New Jersey? It's section 39:4-88:

Quote:
When a roadway has been divided into clearly marked lanes for traffic, drivers of vehicles shall obey the following regulations:

a. A vehicle shall normally be driven in the lane nearest the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway when that lane is available for travel, except when overtaking another vehicle or in preparation for a left turn.
And this one takes the cake:

You, sir, are an arrogant, dangerous jackass, breaking the law simply to impose your view of what others should be doing:

Motor Vehicle Act

Quote:
(1) The driver of a vehicle must confine the course of the vehicle to the right hand half of the roadway if the roadway ...

(2) The driver of a vehicle proceeding at less than normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing must drive the vehicle in the right hand lane then available for traffic, or as closely as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing a vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or when preparing for a left hand turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
If drivers are coming up behind you, that's the "normal speed of traffic."

Gotta wonder about this "logic":

"I don't like the fact that you're breaking the speed limit law, so I'm going to break the keep right law, and I'm going to put everyone on the highway in danger by breaking the brake-check law to boot!"

How much more childishly passive-aggressive can you get?

That's what I've read to. But to be fair, the guy should be able to state his side of the story so we get to hear both sides. Has he spoken to the press yet? I'd love to read his comments justifying his asinine behavior.
