+1 the dog door is a life (and carpet) saver for me (and the pooches - particularly as they got older).

This is like one of those questions "Road Bike or Mt. Bike".

Both is always the answer. Dogs are easy and hard. They always love you to death and can be a royal pain at the same time. Cats are easy as well as if you don't love them to death they stay aloof, are happy to sleep on your couch and eat the food you give them. If you love them, to death they always come around and love back. Never fails.

I have 4 cats. We've never had a dog (wife and I). We've always wanted a dog but just seemed inundated with cats sometimes as all are rescue's. At one point I had 6 rescue kittens as well as 4 house cats and rescued 21 kittens over a 2 year period.

I love dogs though and have been unlucky enough to have never had some lucky dog wander into our lives, which is what all our cats have done.

Someday.

Not fair introducing a pet that poops spheres. Some black magic going on with those things for sure.

Dogs can take a lot before they decide to kill you. Cats just want to kill you regardless.

Ok, the thing about cats for those of you that are in that camp. One is enough, any more than that and you're hoarding and need an intervention.

Cat6 but for me it's nothing but dogs.

No one ever tries to convert me or get in the house without a invitation from me and approval from the canine welcoming committee

Meet the best dog ever to walk the planet. She broke my heart 6 years ago. Some things can only happen once. This pic was taken 17 years go.

Someone tried to get into our place in the middle of the night back in 2004. I'd seen her in action and she was a fierce fighter, but I will be in awe until the end of the days what she did that night. Let's just say some bonehead had a size 14 shoe torn off him and barely got away without being shredded. The cops caught him 5 minutes later. There's barely a day that goes by without me thinking of her. We let her keep the shoe as a prize.

Match your choice to your persona. Are you a pal or a jerk?

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Zero dependents currently, and likely forever.

But if I had to choose: 2 cats. I am so over dogs.

I'm a commuter/mountain biker/cruiser and have never ridden a road bike, so whether I count as a road cyclist is up in the air. I'm both a cat and dog person, but I have something of a cat preference because I grew up with cats but not dogs. Currently I have no pets, and that won't change until after college. I eventually want to own both dogs and cats.

I've always considered myself a dog person. That said we have 1 cat no dogs. Our cat is a stray that moved in with us a few years ago.
