Why can't someone in a "normal house" deduct mortgage interest?

one can....however, the current education system combined with the media and the divisive nature of the political landscape has created incredible wealth envy and mostly, it's based in lack of knowledge.

Got our refund checks a couple weeks ago. Made an extra house payment and put the rest in savings.

locolobo13 04-14-14 03:52 PM

Just mailed my returns in. Got some back from the feds, paid some to the state.

We got a refund of around $ 1600. With the bank accounts paying 0.1% interest, and such a small amount of refund, I don't concern myself overly much with over withholding. The refunds go straight into the bank.

...on most Friday nights, they hurt my head when they put me in the back of the cruiser.

When you get cuffed in a fed office, they have a mean-assed dog and a bunch of tactical gear in the back of the SUV,
so they just write you a non appearance warrant for creating a disturbance and kick you loose. #no_headaches

A whole bunch of places are also having tax-day deals.

Every year I do my taxes in January, but every year I forget to mail them until today. It's going to take me years to get through this book of stamps.

I'd rather be writing a check on 4/14 every year than getting a refund. Getting a refund means I have lost use of my money throughout the year and someone else has had use of it.

My ex-wife is a CPA, and she always tried to get things to come out to $0 at the end of the year. It always caused her a lot of grief to do that, and with being self employed now I figure it's better at keep things reasonably close to zero at the end of the year to avoid getting penalized for underpayment. The penalties for underpayment are way higher than I want to pay, and I'm going to keep doing that unless I end up in the GE/Boeing/Caterpillar tax bracket.

I'm paying $4800 more in state than federal....what's the weather like in Florida today ?

I was surprised. Even with TurboTax it allows electronic submission and withdrawal of money from your checking account for payment. So no stamps needed

Bitter much?

My wife stays home to take care of our kids as well, however, I'm happy to pay a little bit extra in taxes so families who have to work two jobs to make ends meet get a bit of a tax break. If that means a family that can afford to live on one income still gets a tax break, then so be it.

Also, making the statements that someone who sends their kid to daycare is sending them to someone else be raised or doesn't take care of the kid is really just plain stupid.

yeah, it would be so much better to tax them "properly" and make them completely destitute...
