Well, I messaged her and said something like "we should get coffee/drink sometime. Im always looking to get to know new people". Something like that. She hasn't responded yet but then she put up a public posting saying something like "i will be working at *blank, blank, blank*, from *blank time* to *blank time* come by and hang out,get drunk eat a cheeseburger". WTF??? LOL

No offense but if she's kind of "punkish" as you say and you're fretting about things like this you're probably not her type.

That being said if you actually want to find out don't be like a junior high girl and ask her friends all about her, just send her a message. Ask her directly if she's in a relationship, say you don't mean to be a creeper but you think she's hot and would like to get to know her better. If she is, brush it off and make a joke of it. Awkward!!! or whatever.

That would be way less creepy than randomly complimenting her (or whatever you did that elicited the response you're on here about) and she will probably respect you for being forward.

If they were actually friends, other than on Facebook, I'd agree. But they're not and that would generally be considered creepy/stalkerish IMO.

Dude is usually a bad sign but considering the medium and not knowing much about the context I wouldn't consider it a lost cause yet.

One girl shot me down with a word worse than dude - "buddy". That one almost certainly means no sex will be happening, ever!

I didn't compliment her. I made a comment to her about something she said.

Whatever, it doesn't matter. I should actually have said if you continually comment/compliment on her postings despite not really being friends.

Do not do it, especially since you sent her that message. The ball is in her court now and if you show up it stands a good chance of getting weird. Particularly if she sees your message after you dropped by.

Yeah, I may not drop by then. For a second, I thought it was ironic that she posted that after I sent that message. That post could have been for anyone/someone else though so......I will just let this one go.

I wouldn't drop by. She's just trolling for tips in that post.

Usually not much progress can be made with bartenders/waitresses while on shift, anyway.

Same. Didn't see the point in dating someone that I wasn't friends with. Too many creeps to not weed them out via friendship first.

That said... this thread looks really familiar.
I seriously think I gave this guy advice once before, on this same subject, and was told I was wrong or cruel or...something.

None taken, LOL.

But seriously man. If you want to date via the web, try the dating websites instead of FB. That way everyone is on the same page. You'll have a much better time.

(I probably said this before, LOL) I did meet the guy I am now engaged to online. We were friends first, online. Then we were friends in RL. THEN came the dating. Had he tried to skip straight to dating I would have sent him to the 'ignore user' area.

"Do you think I could get your number so we could go out sometime?"

Yes or no question. Ask it, move on. She won't be mean, and getting shot down doesn't hurt that much.

And STOP TALKING ON FACEBOOK. That is the absolute worst thing you could do.

LoL very interesting all the different techniques we all use... and different advice we give. I'm assuming the majority of us giving the advice are in successful relationships? Just curiosity striking a nerve here really.. Also a quick question for Velo, what possesses you to ask for relationship advice from Foo?

The knowledge wealth of the Foo collective is legendary, especially in our own minds.

And if he doesn't get a date he can always learn how to wire his house for 220 or fix a transmission on his dining room table.

I figure he has no ideas about the advice given here before. He would have gone straight to Ruben if he did.

Dude, Im 49 and have been calling both men and woman "dude" ever since I can remember. BTW it doesn't mean she likes you, it just means she called you dude.

Here's my story, sad but true
About a girl that I once knew.
She broke my heart, I became unglued,
It all started when she called me dude

Well today I leave the psycho ward
Cause my sentence did conclude:
I had killed a man with my bare hands
Because he called me dude

The jury said that I was insane.
Temporally insane - brain strain.
But now the doctors say I'm A.O.K.
So I start my new life today.

This story starts some years ago
As I vacationed by the sea.
In the California sunshine
Just me & my baby.

I was in love feeling sky high
When a big blonde lifeguard walked by.
He looked at her, she looked at him -
I knew it was good bye.

He took her by the hand, kicked sand in my face.
She looked & laughed & said, "Later Dude!"
They were gone without a trace
And the waves echoed her laughter
And her words...Yo Later Dude.

Later that night I was in such a bad mood
Sittin' in a bar drinkin' hard, getting stewed
Thinkin' 'bout that girl & how 'bout I'd been screwed
When some guy walks in sits next to me & says
What's up dude!

I heard the word dude & I became unglued.
Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch
And put my hands around his neck, and I squeezed...

DON'T CALL ME DUDE!

So that's how I got where I am
But this ain't where it ends.
The doctors said they cured me
I said good bye to my crazy friends.

I was smiling as i left that place
My life had been renewed.
The guard at the gate, he stamped my pass
And he said, "Yo Later Dude!"

Slowly I turned...
