Foster kitten

1 Attachment(s)
My wife decided she wanted a kitten, but didn't want to add another cat to the family just yet. So we've decided to foster kittens for Operation Kindness. We went to the foster orientation last Thursday (5/8), and got a foster kitten on Saturday (5/10).

She's 5 weeks old. We have to bring her back this weekend for her first round of shots, and we have to return her to them on 5/30.

She's an adorable little thing.

What an adorable kitty! I don't know if I could foster kittens; I'd want to keep them all.

You're a good egg. One of my two poochies was fostered. An excellent way to warm two homes :)

With you... it would be hard to return any one of them... I always marvel at people who foster service animals before they start training... how hard is it to give them up (even for the good cause)?

But Monogodo what you do is a great thing...

Little Panther cats are so adorable. How does she get along with the other cats?

My thoughts precisely.

At $135 a kitten, it'd get expensive really fast. We also intend to refer to all fostered kittens as "kitty", so as to avoid the "once you name it, it's yours" aspect. Operation Kindness has her listed as Lady, but that doesn't seem to be an appropriate name for a 5-week old kitten.

We have her quarantined in her own room. Since she's so young, she hasn't had her shots yet, so we don't want her catching anything from our adult cats. Also, because she came from a shelter, there's no telling what parasites she may have, and we don't want to pass them on to our cats.

Now that the puppies have passed on I guess I could foster a kitten.

Couldn't with the puppies. They each raised their own cat from kittens and I assume they would have done the same again... and not have forgiven me if I gave their kitten away.

Me too. I can handle volunteering at the adopt a dog nights, but doubt I could handle fostering a cat. My last cat came in like that, and she's been here 9 1/2 years.

Tonight is our last night with the foster kitten, I take her back to the shelter tomorrow morning. She's quite a handful. Keeping her separate from the adult cats was challenging. She kept bolting through the door whenever we'd open it. She did come face to face with Jackson a couple of times, and every time they met, he'd hiss at her and retreat. Leoniť seems to be a bit put out that Kitty is in "her" room - she hasn't let us get very close to her at all since the kitten arrived.

The one lesson we've learned from this experience is that we'd prefer to have at least two kittens for fostering, so that they'll have companionship during the day.

She'll get spayed, then will join the other kittens in the Kitten room. If anyone is interested in her, she's at Operation Kindness, and will be listed as Lady.

With that cute face, I have a feeling she won't be at the shelter very long.

PDX TV had a piece on the Hundred + kittens they got , exported from Southern California ..

For some reason, black cats are adopted less often than other colors. Mine isn't sure why that is, as she'll tell you she's very special.

I guess people think they are bad luck. Every once in a while the local shelter will have a "sale" on black cats where their adoption fees are reduced to entice more people to adopt them.

I love black cats although mine is technically a tuxedo-mostly black. Dogs too (as I've had 3 of them-still have one).

Yeah, I like black cats, too (my first cat was solid black).

Operation Kindness had a 'sale' for the month of May, all solid black animals were $25 off.
