What's with the stars on homes?

Some of you might be aware of my ongoing search for a new house.

I have been noticing an awful lot of homes with large stars on the door or on the front of the home. Are you seeing these in your area? What is the deal? I really don't find them very attractive.

Amish star, or barn star. I assume they're popularity must be due to being featured at Pottery Barn or some other such purveyor of authentic home goods made in china.

It's pretty obvious that a Sneech lives there.

They are markers for the tour buses and the maps to the star's homes.

The color is the thing I find overly common and unattractive. Every new build around me is painted/sided similarly. I see the stars from time to time, billymc's assessment seems right on; probably being mass produced for some home stores

In Pittsburgh? Very unlikely. If someone sees a Dallas Cowboy star on a house we burn in to the ground.

I asked a neighbor the same thing once. She said it was popular amongst swingers. Sounds like urban legend to me but she was pretty adamant about it.

When I saw your post title I knew it would be Penn. I think it started with the Moravians.

Did she have a star on her house?

Stars in Pittsburg? I vote for the Pennsylvania Dutch answer.

First they would torch the couch on the porch to start the fire.

In Texas you have to have a star on your house, as well as an oil well in your hard, a long horn grazing on your property, a white convertible 1976 Cadillac Eldorado with six shooters for door handles and horns on the hood and a ten gallon hat on at all times, even in the pool or shower.

Depending on which way the star is placed on the home, point up or down, it indicates that the occupants are either pagan/wiccan or satanist.

Blame Pier One Imports & the like for the availability of those big stars... but the real purpose: bat housing? wasp nesting? hornet hatching?

I'm thinking the stars will fade when the pink flamingos make a come back.

Saw one on my morning walk with the dogs. No homeowners present to ask. I'll ask next time they're around, keeping my running shoes snugged up and ready for fight or flight.

These are the real answers. It makes no sense to me. I dislike them quite a bit, yet there is one on my porch, because my wife shops at The Christmas Tree Shop.

Was thinking exactly this when I saw that response. I'm not in Pittsburgh, but definitely Steeler and Penguin territory. I pass a house on the way to work (in Butler) that has Dallas flags hanging all over and even has the Dallas Cowboy star painted all over her car. Such bad taste, LOL.

I also have no idea, nor did my wife when I asked her, "What does that star mean?" when it appeared on my front porch one day.

Darn... and here I thought they were awarded for doing good work... sort of like a grade, but you either get moons or stars.

My first thought was that they were for family member serving kind of like those flags with stars on them. My brother in law has a sticker with one of those flags with two stars on it on his SUV. Since no one in his family is in the service let alone abroad on active duty, I really don't know what that's about.

I'm in NE Ohio and have started to notice the damn things everywhere in the last couple of years. Places like Hobby Lobby & Pier 1 sell them - why people buy them I'm not quite sure.
But I think they're intended to be a message of subservience to the coming alien overlords. Those homes with stars on them will be spared during the Apocalypse.
Yup.

Uh, I just realized something this evening: House has indeed been the scene of many parties, with many cars in the yard with out of state plates.
Lots of junk in the yard.

Maybe I should stop in and say hello?!?
