My Mother's first husband died on Omaha Beach. My Dad was a Marine in the Pacific Theater, and fought on Saipan and Tarawa. They trained him as a Truck Driver, so naturally upon graduation, they stuck a weapon in his hands, and he never drove a truck again during his service.

    + a zillion!

I was watching NBC News last night, and to see some of those guys just brought a catch in my throat and a lot of gratitude to my soul. They were what? 18,19,20,21 years old, and they just went out and did their duty. And no escaping the draft by hotfooting to Canada either. I am an American by choice, and that generation of Americans will forever be in my heart.
    Regards,

    Jed

too many threads about carrying such which all went very poorly.
You could fall off a cliff and die.
You could get lost and die.
You could hit a tree and die.
OR YOU COULD STAY HOME AND FALL OFF THE COUCH AND DIE.

then have mods lock the threads when they come up, putting *'s in place of a word doesn't change political rants or meanings when you can use weapon, pigleg, etc. to denote your g u n... just seems like a really silly (and ineffective) way to fix that problem. but not my board so whatever.

My Grandfather worked at the Smelter in Trail, BC during the time of Project 9 and the development of heavy water, D20, for the Manhattan Project. I was too young when he was still alive to ask about his experiences.

Jed, we have something in common, we are both American by choice. Words cannot adequately express the love that I feel for this country or the eternal gratitude I feel for the people who welcomed me to America with open arms and to those Americans (and their families) who made the ultimate sacrifice so that I could live in freedom.

Maybe this will end up in P&R .. "war is politics by other means" ,

and as Gen Smedley Butler Wrote. "Its a Racket" ..

Seems one of the issues that is tied up in the ongoing VA fiasco is the committee members in Congress

Is Money access, they dont have the campaign funding automatic intrest groups

of Banking and Agriculture Interior energy and defense-intelligence committees

who are wanting their 'Boys' taking care of them from the public treasury.

so they have to shake down other sources for that slush to get re elected.

My father-in-law was in the US infantry at Omaha Beach. He received a mortar wound after 37 days, returned to his unit and fought in the battle of the bulge. He spent the rest of the war in Army Intelligence.

Had an uncle in the 8th AAF as a B17 tailgunner. Got his bronze star posthumously before D day.

My dad was in the 5th AAF in the Pacific as a gunner on A20s and A26s on treetop parafrag missions. His crew used to smuggle American cigarettes into Japan after the war, in the wheel wells of A26s ferried from Formosa, and sell them for up to $50 per carton.....his favorite movie was Catch 22.
