    Shopping in Tijuana Mexico

I have 2 days in Tijuana, Mexico next weekend. How is the shopping down there for eyeglasses? Buying eyeglasses in the States is hwy robbery, the markup is insane.
Hoping to buy a frame and lenses for 60-80 USA dollars and be decent quality.

You could try Eyeglasses Online - Buy Prescription Glasses & Eyeglass Frames | Zenni Optical for inexpensive glasses from China.

You'll probably get some bargains even though I didn't need glasses when I lived in San Diego. When I lived there I used to get dental work there (Crowns used to be $90 in the '90s, $120 for porcelain). If you're going from San Diego I'd either park on this side of the border or take the trolley. Both will put you at the gate and the trolley is actually faster and cheaper.

And when you get off the walking bridge after going through the gate don't turn right at Revolution unless you're headed to the Zona Norte

I was in Ciudad Juarez last year and that was NOT a nice city to walk around and do some shopping on your own. Right over the border you walk into this dive of a place. I been to Mexico City and never felt unsafe but in CJ I did and this was during the day. I thought if someone mugged me how the hell was I going to get home without passport and knowing a soul in Texas. So I just walked for a mile or 2 near the border without exploring the city.
Hoping Tijuana is a bit nicer, I'm really going down to Mexico to see something else so much of America with its chain stores and strip malls feel all the same to me.

TJ should be a little nicer but I haven't been to Juarez since the '70s and not for that long. I've bought clothes in TJ, Prescription drugs like erythromycin (without the prescription), dental work, had moles burned off by a doctor etc.

And gone to the beaches and bars in Rosarito 18 miles from the border. I just took the trolley to TJ from San Diego and the bus down to Rosarito.

Don't drink the tapwater.....not even drinks with ice in it. You'll be gettin' the poots if you do. And you could probably still get mugged in downtown San Diego at night flashing cash in streets off the main areas.

Well glasses in TJ are expensive, its actually cheaper up in Vancouver BC if youre into brand names. All those Asian shops in Burnaby and Richmond BC is where its at for eyeglass wearers. Ray Bans before lenses were 200 USA dollars. I passed on that. Dental work was 50 bucks for a basic cleaning.
I did go to the Zona Norte, whats happens in Zona Norte stays in Zona Norte.

Try the optical dept. at any Costco. I've visited Tijuana twice just to roam around.
I have relatives in southern California. I'm not really into drinking in bars and strip
clubs; so I was kinda bored.

Tijuana is awesome, feels like some of the cities I have been to in China. In San Diego, its feels like any other city in the USA- lots of strip malls and car culture. Drive from this mall to another.
I think the next time I will spend the entire time in TJ. I am still there right now and don't want to come home.

I agree with the Costco recommendation. Good quality and low cost. Hard to beat. Fair selection of frames... and the frame selection changes often.

I recommend skipping eye glass shopping in TJ and heading over to The Long Bar for a few beers.
