find my iPhone lost mode: either my google-fu is weak or this is a stupid question
How do I know if it worked?
I remember waking up the next morning, turning on iCloud, doing the locationy thing, and it found it.
And around the same time I hit "find my iPhone".
And then later noticed that the location was historical, about the same time as when I hit the "find my iPhone".
So I'm not sure if the phone actually received the signal. And worry that if it hasn't been blocked, they could eventually get the PIN and monkey in there.
The location has never popped up since that once. iCloud seems to not give feedback as to whether the phone ever actually was told that it was lost.
Am I stupid to not understand how this works?
Oh, and while I'm on it. I have another stupid question.
If the "Erase my phone" is run, it's free to be used again, right? Which means that I have to keep my old stolen phone sitting there as a bitter reminder forever more if I want to guarantee that the thing stays bricked for whatever barstool stole it?

I can't answer that directly, but I can say from experience that when I found the second iPhone that someone lost in a few months she had locked it so it couldn't be used by anyone but her. I didn't ask her how she did it either, I just handed her the phone back and we both went out separate ways.
