Continuing with the Ramones tribute, this is one of my favorite songs of theirs just because of the funny lyrics which I'll cc & paste. Today's common theme "Mommy & Daddy" songs. I already posted Surrender so I had to go way back to the Chili Peppers 1st album for another Mommy/Daddy song. Loggins & Messina don't R & R
===============
We're a happy family
We're a happy family
We're a happy family
Me mom and daddy
( 2X )

Sitting here in Queens
Eating refried beans
We're in all the magazines
Gulpin' down thorazines

We ain't got no friends
Our troubles never end
No Christmas cards to send
Daddy likes men

Daddy's telling lies
Baby's eating flies
Mommy's on pills
Baby's got the chills

I'm friends with the President
I'm friends with the Pope
We're all making fortunes
Selling Daddy's dope

Sitting here in Queens
Eating refried beans
We're in all the magazines
Gulpin' down thorazines

We ain't got no friends
Our troubles never end
No Christmas cards to send
Daddy likes men

We're a happy family
We're a happy family
We're a happy family

"Aldo Nova: vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, synthesizers"

Orange Alabaster Mushroom is a one man band (Aldo Nova did have a few other musicians in the credits). Those guys both laid it down one track at a time.

In the second pair, Ray M. plays bass with one hand, keyboards with the other, and old dude from Colosseum plays clarinet and sax with one hand each at the same time.

Here's an easy one..

The original band (July 1977, just a few months before the tragic plane crash )

The survivors regrouping in 1980

Here's three (sue me).

Does anyone know if there was more to this than a battle of lyrics? I suspect Skynard got their feelings hurt a bit over Southern Man, fought back, and got their Sweet Home handed to them in Alabama by Neil Young.

Southern Man: "Southern man, better keep your head, don't forget what your good book said...Now your crosses are burning fast..."

Sweet Home Alabama: "...Hope Neil Young will remember, Southern Man don't need him around anyhow."

Alabama: "...Banjos playin' through the broken glass...
See the old folks, tied in white robes, hear the banjos, don't it take you down home?...
Your Cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch and a wheel on the track...
You got the rest of the Union to help you along; what's goin' wrong?..." (Dang, Neil, quit holding back and let it out)

Interesting observation on Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I remember a Rolling Stone interview with Ronnie Van Zant years ago (obviously) where he was asked about the Neil Young comments on Sweet Home and I don't remember exactly what he said, but I think there was some animosity between them. I remember LS catching some PC heat for the line about "they love the governor" and his pointing out that immediately following those words comes "Boo Boo Boo" and that the band was never a supporter of Wallace.

These 2 songs have always reminded me of a common theme - random violence / hopeless youth. They could be on the soundtrack for the '86 movie River's Edge

2 songs on 1 track

Here's a couple of examples of artists who chose to link 2 songs into 1 recorded track - any others you guys know of ?

Here's a couple of classics, and hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to guess the theme.

As I remember it, LS was rather bent at the way Young portrayed them, but Young thought it was cool that he was mentioned in their song. I could be wrong, tho.

I don't think Neil Young ever singled out Lynyrd Skynyrd, but they were responding as Southerners and the leading band in the Southern rock genre. LS was saying it wasn't NY's place to "put her down". FYI, LS was from Florida

Here are two pairs of great tunes that are (rather, were) often played together on the radio.

I can think of quite a lot more; anyone else got some pairs to add?

Another sad loss yesterday from the terrible combination of depression & addictions...RIP Robin Williams.

In 1990 R&R lost a charismatic front man who's death has been the subject of several songs from Seatle area bands, two are attached below. Andy Wood's death opened the door for Eddie Vedder to fill those shoes, but the band never forgot Andy Wood. The band is Pearl Jam and the documentary PJ-20 by Cameron Crowe recaps his influence and death in the beginning. Here's the 1st 2 segmwnts :

HA! I just read backwards and discovered I stole your idea a couple weeks ago! I wasn't responding to what you said; just had the same idea a little late. Doh!

All In The Family

Joel & Benji Madden of Good Charlotte are now the Madden Brothers and have a new album out with this song as the 1st single. As mentioned on the covers thread, Echosmith are 3 brothers and a sister from CA who are really young; however this single has a very grown up & professional sound to it.

As well as the family commonality, both of these songs also share a message about fitting in

Since the family theme has been brought up, here's a couple of well known songs from the 70's done by family members.
