Looks like your dad bought a bike you had to grow into like mine did

Yeah I got my JC Higgins for christmas when I was about 6. It was the largest size available and I didn't grow into it for about 3 years but thanks. No doubt those 8 miler rides into town and back in my pre-teens is what really got me returning to cycling when I stopped smoking cigarettes in my 20s.

Yeah, that bike suffered with the worst abuse a kid can deliver and then was stolen. But it solidified a love for cycling that lasted for over 50 years so far.

My dad always made me put my bike up in the garage. smart man my dad.

Since I mostly lived in the country when I had it I didn't have those problems, while riding it, and when riding to my buddy's house in town we always kept them in his garage when we weren't riding them. I can remember reminding my friend to do that for just that reason.

Now if other young kids nowadays would have listened when I warned them there would be less tears and a bike for them to hang onto as well.

Mine was stolen at school. Out of probably 2-300 bikes. Bike theft was pretty much unheard of. I didn't know anyone who locked their bike at school.

My dad bought me a new bike for Christmas when I was aa junior in high school(I think). Like all good noncycling parents, they where all the same, and being the frugal guy he is, he bought it a Channel Lumber. It lasted through my first year of college, untill the fork broke off at the steerer tube. He took me to the hospital to get my head checked out. They found nothing.
