My first home computer came with 4K of memory and I thought it was great when I figured out how to expand it to 8K. I would have viewed 384K as almost infinite at the time.

My first was a Commodore 128. Thought it was cooler than the 64 until I realized most games required you to run it in 64 mode.

My dad worked in autopilots, which grew microprocessors far in advance of anything in your home. When they went from 8k to 16k they couldn't believe their good fortune. The engineering cleverness they displayed with their limited means in the pre-GPS era, when they were switching from tubes to transistors to IC's, and from mechanical to laser gyros, was amazing.

Mine was an 1986 Amstrad PCW8256 that had 256K of memory which I upgraded to 512K. It also ran CP/M and had a 3" (not 3.5") floppy disc. Hard drive? You got to be kidding.

My Commodore 64 is still in the basement, somewhere. Tape drive and all. I may even still have a copy of Adventure on tape. Only took 90 mins to load.
