Brilliant musicians who haven't broken big yet.

I've been posting some of my favourite artists who haven't broken big time yet in various threads but I have nowhere to put Gretchen Menn. So, new thread,

Gretchen Menn, Valentino's Victory Lap. Hum dinger.

Post your favourite artists who haven't broken big yet.

Marie Digby, First Picture of Earth.

Brilliant. I've posted an acoustic version of this somewhere. This is the full production. Why Marie hasn't broken into the big league yet is beyond me.

Doesn't really qualify but because he has recently made it. Great musician. Still under appreciated in N.A.

I really liked the Empire cover by Marie Digby you posted. I think she should get a stage name - Marie Digby doesn't have much of a ring to it I'm a big fan of Metric, and they're somewhat famous but i think they should be bigger. They're great musicians and seem to be cool people. I think Emily writes great songs with a lot of hooks that can be interpreted in different ways.

They did the theme song to a Twilight movie, so I guess it's hard to say they haven't had success....but I think they should be huge. Here's the song Emily wrote for Twilight "Eclipse" and a behind-the-scenes video. I love this band !!

Anup Sastry definitely fits this category. He's a drummer, but wrote/programmed everything on his tracks:

Owen still qualifies. He gained a certain degree of fame from being on Australia's Got Talent but he's still working hard trying to make it stick. Owen is based in Canberra (his family lives here) which is pretty much where I live although he really is a bit of a traveling minstrel. I first saw and got to know Owen a little when he was busking in Canberra. I do a bit of busking in Canberra myself.

I suspect that the answer to my own question, why haven't these people broken big is probably because they won't accept a bad deal from the record companies. So many people will accept bad deals that the record companies don't feel the need to offer good deals.

Some great work. Here's another who should be on the verge of breaking through.

Daniela Andrade, Don't Care.

Laura Cox, Kristen Stewart in my Band.

Laura is a hard rocking French gal who plays a fine collection of American guitars, sings and writes songs. This is a great whimsical track. Oiu, oiu.

When I was living in Dallas back in '68-'69 we used to go to a teen nightspot called the Cellar to watch this guy, Bugs Henderson, play the h**l out of a guitar. Bugs had an opportunity once to play for Canned Heat and turned it down because he was part owner of the club and reportedly didn't think that much of Canned Heat's musicians and thought they weren't going anywhere.

Bugs predated SRV as a popular blues and rock guitarist on the Texas music scene but I haven't seen him since those early days in the late '60s when he didn't even sing, just played. He passed away in 2012.

How about Jon Finn (Professor of guitar at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA) ??

Besides being a full time college professor, he has a side project/band called (obviously) The Jon Finn Group, and they are pretty much instrumental music, leaning twoards progressive, fusion, rock, etc...

Danielle Ate the Sandwich, Faith in a Man.

Danielle has a far out sense of humour. Great song. Outstanding production.

Here's another weird S of H song from an artist who fits the category. I saw her at the Warped Tour years ago along with about 12 other fans

Paul Winn Band, Leave it to Fate.

I posted a mild criticism on the YouTube page for this track a couple of years ago expecting to get panned from its fans but, nothing. Catchy rock tune and a clever video which was apparently done for real. Not digital.

Keep an eye out for Dorothy. My brother is her writer, producer and guitarist. Just signed with Jay-Z's company. Her album is coming out around October. She might be the next big pure rock artist.

Not sure how to imbed videos.
