No I DIDN'T. Until recently that (and OTHER bridges) had armed police on duty. The guards are gone.

Sorry to read that you're hearing voices again. If the voices are warning you about TV stations and radio broadcasters.... I hope you get help. And don't worry about your "chemtrails".... it's just harmless vapor.

This thread has nothing to do with cycling at all, and putting "bicyclists" in the title doesn't make it any more relevant. Moving to Foo from A&S and editing the title to reflect the true nature of the thread.

You're remarkably misinformed for a non New Yorker.

There has been a police car (with 2 cops) at the auto entrances for the major bridges since 9/11. Special bollards have been installed at the entrances to the pedestrian/bicycle paths of these bridges. Supposedly these bollards have sensors to detect contraband. These measures have not been removed. I have not made it a habit to cross these bridges at 3am, so the cops may not have been there during those hours. However, I doubt it.

The only "guards" on the Brooklyn Bridge were placed there by the contractor who is repairing the suspender cables. The work has narrowed the Promenade deck. Those guards are placed there to keep pedestrians and bicyclists separated during crowded periods. The flags were allegedly switched around 3am. That's not a high volume time for the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Brooklyn Bridge is currently undergoing deck replacement. The work is being done between midnight and 5am. The Brooklyn bound roadway is closed during those hours with Brooklyn bound traffic being routed onto the Manhattan bound roadway. One hypothesis is that one of the workers might have been the culprit.

The embarrassing point for the NYPD is that they did not notice the switch. They found out about it during the morning rush hour. They were wondering what was causing the traffic jam as motorists were gazing at the flags.

The new administration did cut back on some anti-terrorist assignments. These assignments were outside the US - in European capitals. NYPD had cops looking for terrorists in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Beirut and Tel Aviv. NYPD also cut back the practice of hiring local Muslims to gather "intelligence." A New York Magazine reported that many of these hires searched for terrorist plots in expensive Middle Eastern restaurants.

Misinformed and angry is no way to go through life, son. Though it could be said to describe a certain TV demographic.

And it wasn't me with the chemtrails comment, you are mixed up...again.

It was me with the Paul Harvey comment though; I thought you would be amused as you must remember him.

Usually when people reach their mature years they have developed some thickness to their skin and a sense of humor.

That's where I'd go... hunting for terrorists over a plate of shawarma, follow it up with some halva and baklava... on the NYPD dime, sure!

Nether anger or a big TV fan here.... You do seem to have a very sizable psychic-predictive fail rate. You may need to have a long talk with those voices you're hearing.

Sorry I got you mixed up with that other Fox hater/blamer/psychic (lostarchitect)..... I have NO idea what Fox had to do with ANY of this. For some reason I fail to understand.... some people blame everything on Fox News.... or some old past American President named George Bush. Why not blame the bleached flags on Kenneth Starr? Makes as much sense (and equally destroys real conversations of fact). But... we're in foo now... so who cares.

Well then, round up all of the escaped New Yorkers and put them back, then close off the city and turn it into a giant New Yorker Reservation. It is clear from all of the attacks on NYC that New Yorkers are terrorists.

Mischa Leinkauf and Matthias Wermke two German artists say they planted the flags... to encourage admiration of the architecture. And so it ends.
