This one starts out with about a minute of tuning, but if you like bluegrass, it's worth the wait.

Jerry Garcia and friends from the band Old & In The Way playing Panama Red.

Love this ancient stuff

Another from the late '30s, perhaps early '40s has these lyrics in the 3rd verse of this particular version of an old Louis Armstrong song:

I'm a ding dong daddy baby
And liquor is my racket

Lots of times when things are dull
I deal in other traffic

I can sell you morphine coke or snow
Take a little shot and you're raring to go

Cause I'm a ding dong daddy from Dumas babe
You ought to see me do my stuff

A controversial song from the release, many stations wouldn't play it because of the PC factor, but it was big in clubs. I've always seen it as more of a drug song than violence against women. Minutes 3:00 to 4:12 make this song

Don't you just love it when the older generation is oblivious to a songs meaning, and does a cover of it?
BTW The male singer is "Dick Dale", but is not the same person as the guitarist of the same name.

It's not really a song, but it is about drugs and done by a guy who knew the subject.

And lets not ignore tobacco,

and caffeine (probably the oldest drug song on this list)

A couple of short references to drugs within the lyrics to other old songs. Here are just two off the top of my head:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12-ttcAOO8E

Fats Waller tells Sherlock Holmes to "quit watchin' the needle", then laughs in this 1935 jazz piece.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXS-qjtiNJE

Budd Hobbs makes reference to "white line" presumably as stimulant in this early '50s western swing piece.

This is a relationship song that is based on drug use - these guys are so underrated : EDIT they're not underrated, critics and other bands love them, just not the commercial success I would expect

In a similar vein:

Though it is not a drug song, and is more aimed at the biblical punishment and brow beating in a sense, Dylan could not resist the "pun" in Rainy Day Women.

Good one Donn

I forgot to add yesterday, I'll bet Gail & Dale knew exactly what the "modern spiritual" was about (above)
