Practicing to be a future stunt double maybe? Gawd knows that there's a ton of money be made in the stunt business. As for kids these day, let me see, cigarette lighters and flatulent gas seem to come to mind from my youth of long ago.

You have said it best. I had no idea so many people have swimming pools. Wow, that is impressive.

So, they are now setting themselves on fire, to prove their toughness. What's next? How about standing in front of speeding locomotives,
and ducking out of the way at the last possible nanosecond?

It's an old Song ..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wCXr_6wgns

Kids, I don't know what's wrong with these kids today
Kids, who can understand anything they say?
Kids, they are disobedient, disrespectful oafs
Noisy, crazy, sloppy, lazy, loafers
And while we're on the subject

Kids, you can talk and talk till your face is blue
Kids, but they still do just what they want to do
Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids today?

Kids, I don't mind the moonlight swims
If I [Incomprehensible] the [Incomprehensible] that hurts
Kids, how we ever beat the Russians
Kids, I didn't know what puberty was, it was almost past it
Laughing, singing, dancing, grinning, morons
And while we're on the subject

Kids, they are just impossible to control
Kids, with their awful clothes and their rock an' roll
Why can't they dance like we did
What's wrong with Sammy Caine?
What's the matter with kids today?

if the fluid has a low heat of combustion, I don't see what the big deal is. but if it's gasoline, then that's Darwin's theory trimming down our gene pool. Either way, I'm not too concerned.

If I had to choose between the quick flame vs getting tattooed I would take the fire, no doubt. To each his own. Tattoos are dumb.

You can get a stupid show-off to do just about anything now, in the past and in the future.

When I was a youngster I had a buddy that would do just about anything on a dare. One of the more spectacular stunts was peeing on a running lawnmower.

Later the same guy peed on an electric fence.

It's not as if such behavior is new or anything... just the blantantency of it has increased a great deal, as well as escalation since the old stunts are well old.. I'll spare the details but I recall as a teen the hoodlums I ran with had several rather idiotic actions you could do to buy yourself some more credit with the crowd.. in this day and age I'm sure they'd be called challenges, recorded, and uploaded to youtube. Not too (relatively speaking in years, maybe a decade ago?) long back I recall hearing about teenage boys beating the crud out of each other in basements etc ala fight club style, teens always seem to have stupid set of rites of passage IMO.

That is so 50s.

But then they did it with cars racing to a head on crash. Actually a bit worse because if you did not swerve and the other guy did you won. here at least you know the train ain't going to stop.

Thank God I grew up before youtube. My Mom woulda killed me if she saw some of the things I tried.

Setting yourself on fire is up there tho. I do remember a kid trying to increase the campfire by pouring white gas out of a burning lantern. Fortunately we were at the lake and he immediately jumped in preventing serious burns. Unfortunately it was January.

As to Darwin's theory, he is a grandpa nowadays.
