Well, a big portion of people in the entertainment business are very uneducated. Many never even graduated HS. Secondly, when everything you say is quotable (public figures are never off the record), sometimes you say dumb things. Just imagine if everything YOU say is recorded and published. We would all look like idiots. Third, sometimes quotes are published out of context or spun intentionally to create sensationalism. You can't completely control an editor's use of an interview. It happens all the time.

Now, some thing are just ridiculous like when a Senator was concerned that the island of Guam might flip over if too many military people were stationed there. I have no idea how that Admiral kept a straight face.
