Just a little FYI on good ol' Frankie:

In 1986, Perdue told a presidential commission that he had twice unsuccessfully sought help from a reputed New York crime boss to put down union activities.

"By moving chickens from farms into industrial production, they (Perdue) shoehorn chickens into tiny cages, cut off their beaks without anaesthetic and feed them antibiotics that force them to lay their guts out, literally, during their short and miserable life."
Robert Kennedy speaks to Toronto June 21 2003

“Chickens are naturally a flocking animal, so the question of the space they need is irrelevant.” (Pamphlet put out by Frank Perdue, one of the largest confinement chicken producers in the United States)

In 1989 National Public Radio and the Washington Post reported that Perdue workers in Lewiston, North Carolina, were routinely fired if they reported injuries.

A Perdue personnel memo stated that it was normal for about 60% of workers to go to the (company) nurse for pain killers and to have their hands bandaged. Donna Bazemore, a former employee, told National Public Radio that she'd seen women urinating and vomiting on the work line because they were not allowed to leave it to go to the bathroom.

The list goes on & on. He may have been a very succesful capitalist, but I bet not many of you would have wanted to work for him.

He always disliked paying minimum wage and having to observe safety rules for workers. So, he began importing workers from Mexico who he could pay $150 for a sixty hour work week. If a worker is injured to badly to work...back to Mexico...no "worker's comp" claims.

He generously "funds" politicians in the State's where his company has plants, and was therefore immune from prosecution for his abuses of workers. Recently, the air conditioner in a truck bringing in undocumented workers from Mexico failed. Many of the workers died a slow, terrifying death.

The truck driver operating that truck is now facing the possibility of getting the death penalty. No charges were filed against the companies who recruit these workers. But, now THIS criminal will face a higher court.

Frank Perdue died? My one of my great aunts married his brother. They never wanted anything to do with him because of the way he treated his employees. The UN even sactioned his company over human rights violations. Yes, Perdue employees could not take rest room breaks and were only paid minimum wage if they got their paycheck.

I think that's how it works in most factories, unfortunately. They wouldn't give us bathroom breaks on the fishing boats when the catch comes through. It was insane. I'm sure some folks were peeing on the fish. Go fishsticks!
