1957 Volkswagen Beetle small rear window and 36 horses of
    pure german power. . .

1991(?) Toyota Landcruiser, last year with the split tailgate,
Old Man Emu suspension. A real offroad vehicle not like these
    poseur 4x4's today.
Any vehicle that can drive in and out of Mocambique is
    ok in my book.

My 1956 Ford F100 pickup. Classic style, big as a
    house, was a great vehicle.

73 BMW 2002Tii the original pocket rocket (I didn't own
this one, my best friend did, I wanted it)

Just got lucky and found one that had been imported instead of produced for the US Market. The European models had slighly higher compression, 185hp (vs 177 for US), and a taller rear gear along with Euro one-piece headlights and a bit more free-flowing exhaust system. Both had the active hydraulic four point suspension system and were otherwise identical.

Yeah, I miss that car... Unbelievably, I put about 100k miles on the thing and aside from an occasional head gasket leak and the timing belt jumping on super-cold mornings, it only had one real weakness: the throw-out bearings coudn't handle the revs, would spin-out their grease, and then disintegrate.

Interestingly enough, guess who built the 16v motors used in the Mercedes 190E hot rod sedans??? Yup, Cosworth again.

If you like high-rev'ing engines, these were the cat's meow. The Cosworth Vega (120bhp) had a 6,500 redline and the grey-market 190E 16V Mercedes Cosworth (185bhp) redlined at 7,200 rpm.

Of course, the king of "sing" is the Honda S2000's VTech motor (240 bhp) which doesn't kick-in to high performance mode until 6,500 rpm ('04 version) and redlines at 8,300 rpm. The pre '04 models don't redline until 9k rpm.

Anyone ever have a Citroen SM, early 70's with the Masaratti engine?

I also drooled at the Austin-Heally 3k, only sports car with a truck engine that I ever liked.

I bet you learned to have an oil shield on any time you popped the hood, those hydraulic pumps could spray the fluid! I had a Citroen Mehari, looked like a little jeep, rag top, built on a 2CV platform. The body was all plastic, funny, if you got it stuck in sand two people could pick it up high enough to set it on higher ground! I rear ended a massive Pontiac with it, plastic broke into a million pieces.
