Breaks won't stop your bike!!!

... but BRAKES will. Sorry folks, just need to vent for a minute. Wish I had a nickel for every post I've read where someone is discussing the BREAKS on their bike. Okay, I feel better now. Carry on.

Actually, breaks will stop your bike - until they're repaired.

Agreed. A break in the steerer tube was very effective in bring my bike to a stop as the front fork and wheel came off and the head tube slammed into the pavement. But using my brakes to stop the bike has been much less painful.

This is the interwebs.................. Best to get used to poor spelling and grammar. As long as I can glean their meaning, it is fine with me............

i see it from the other perspective

when writing something to post on the internet
expect hundreds or thousands of people to read it
and pay careful attention to not make it too hard to read
and avoid common and annoying errors

I should say that spelling can bug me too, but I think there are people for whom English is not a first language. I don't expect them to spell/write perfectly and would rather discuss their cycling-related issues than bother too much with grammar and spelling. But there are times...

The "English is not their primary language" posts are usually pretty easy to spot. I certainly cut them plenty of slack. And notice, I'm really not complaining or suggesting that anything should be done about it. Just venting and hoping maybe a couple of people will read it and realize the error of their ways. So think of it as a public service announcement.

Maybe ... depending on adjustment ... and quality ... and pads ... and type of brake ... and rim material ... and system contamination ... and water ... and wet leaves on the road ...

Actually - as I think about this - wet leaves on the road may lead to a break - which will stop your bike.

I can bear the grammar issue as long as no one asks me to bare with them.

Is this an invasion from the "Over 50" forum?

That said, I think this needs to go here:

Aren't bikes--and riders--usually stopped during a break?
