iPod V iRiver V Creative

am interested in getting a mp3 player to take OS with me and have been looking at the new iPhoto ipod (60GB), the iRiver H340 and also the Creative 60GB unit that they have. All of the reviews out there sound pretty good, so it is proving a little hard to decide which one is the best suited unit. The iRiver is only 40GB but that still a fair amount of space.

Has anyone else out there been through this selection problem? if so which unit did they decide on? None of them seem to have any real faults (I mean you can get past the iTunes problem with regards to file swapping now so that is not a big problem).

I also would like to store digi photos on it as well if required.

The iRiver looks pretty cool in black as well.

Any input from others?

The iRiver owns the iPod. Its a little thick though buts its worth it. Take it from an actual owner, it rules. Its incredibly tough and you can upgrade it. It rules. But if I were you I would get an H320. Who needs 40 GBs of space? But last time I saw a creative 60 gig it was the size of a small brick. But the creative zen is one cool little Mp3 player though. It all depends on what your looking for.

OK cool thanks for that. I liked the look of the iRiver. 40gb though is what I would be after. I am moving OS to live, so basically want to use it as my stereo (buy some 2.1 speakers for it) and not take cds or anything like that over with. As I wont have a computer either I thought that it would be a good way to hold most of my music and some photos if required. Did you get the docking station as well? I have noticed that the new iPods dont come with them as standard.

I have an iPod and if you want the best quality, best backed player, get one. I haven't regretted getting mine since. The iRivers sound pretty cool, but I heard they are HUGE! A 60bg iPod photo can still easily fit in your pocket.

iPod - absolutely. I've a 3rd gen. 20 gig. It's trouble free, and made like a work of art. Gotta love Apple stuff.

Size is not really important for I most likely will not use it as a travelling music player in my pocket. Basically more intersted in which is the better quality product. Still like the look of the iRiver, but also see that ipod is bigger (60gb) and has a much bigger support base as well.

I have the Creative Zen Extra and love it (30gb). No problems and I use it every day. Very easy to use and load songs in.

What is it with you people and size?! Its only an inch thick!

Features:

Direct FM radio recording
Voice Recording
Picture viewing capability
Text viewing
Very, very bright color screen
Upgradeable Firmware
Can make you own equalizer
USB 2.0 (not that crappy firewire)
And its hella tough but if you don't mind some scratches now and then.

Its very functional. All of my freinds freak over this thing. Exept John. He thinks its a rip-off. Which comes to my next point. How much does an iPhoto cost? 500$?! Not for an H320 (its better then the H340, dude believe me) I got my H320 for about 380 bucks.

And don't get me wrong iPods are an impressive chunk of software but I like my iRiver much better.

Radio? BLAH...

The whole reason for an iPod is to avoid radio...

OS X rules...

I like my iRiver. You can also use it for recording lectures in class. You won't actually use it for this but it lets you think of it as an "educational expense" to salve your conscience.

(My iRiver 320 is the most used piece of electronics I've ever owned. Well worth it.)

I agree with Scot over here. Thats what I told my mom and she got it for me. I mainly use it for music though. But what I do these days is type up my work at home, save it onto my iRiver into a folder, take it to school, transfer my work to the computer there then I save the work and print it out.

You can use an ipod for that too. Or any USB Flash drive.

Prove it. '

Can your little iPod record from ANY audio source? Does it get FM radio? Does it have a color screen? So far all I have is no. The one reason people buy iPods are because they are thin.

screw apple...itunes is the worst media player iv ever used. I have a 40g Creative zen extra and i prefer it greatly over my brothers ipod. A 40g ipod is like $400, my 40g creative was only 250!

Many files have been ripped. But aren't the Creative extras huge? I'd buy one no problem but I have my iRiver. I just got a new case for it today and a remote control for it. My BMXing has never been better. The remote makes my life so much easier, and the new case adds a cool look and protection to it. iRiver rules.

It depends on what you want to do.
iPod is slick and seamless. It's a Porsche.
iRiver CD players are cheap and useful. They're Saturns with respectable gray paint jobs.
iRiver HD players are personal-sized hovercraft with front-mounted flamethrowers.
