Where the coolest place you've been?

In light of the fact that we have such a diverse group of participants with a wide range of interests, I'm pitching up this question:
Where have you been that very few people get to go?
What makes it so unique?
Photos are a plus.

Keep your answers short. No one wants to read a novel.

Here's mine: The bull pen of the old Tiger Stadium. When given the chance to go on the field, most people rush into the main dugout. Few think to go here. But when I show them this picture, they almost all say, "I've always wanted to go there." But they blew their chance.

18th green of Wannamoisett C.C. joking with Joe Pesci about how drunk Charles Barkley was. I was Barkley's caddy. I only made $50, but I get to tell people that I saw Sir Charles drink 16 beers in 18 holes, and then cancel his flight to go a strip club.

Lots of people go there(big tourist attraction), but probably the coolest place was Cheju Island, off the coast of South Korea. Went to rappelling(Aussie style) school there. It was awesome!

The Mayan pyramid Coba, amazing place. Scary as hell to climb up it because it's very tall.

Bald Head Island, North Carolina (near the Frying Pan shoals) - satellite image

80% protected wetlands, 10% golf course, 100% cool. Best beach in the state.

And the best part? Cars are not allowed on the island!!!

Transport is by golf cart or bicycle. The B&B the wife and I stayed at had a tandem for guests to use!

p.s. You folks in the NYC fixie crowd should know this ship:
(it used to be anchored off shore - now you guys party in it... LOL)

Great question and a tough call. I'd say, Italy, Death Valley and Ireland (all by bike of course).

as mundane as it might sound - the desert southwest. hiking along about 100 miles from any town. it's very rare to be on a piece of land that has never been developed. essentially untouched for thousands of years. the combo of the sun, wind, and deafing silence makes it just so unique. it's the region i grew up in and it's the also the place i want to end up.

Countries ive been to: Mexico, Canada, Jamacia, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Germany, France, Portugal, England, Scotland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands, Gibraltor.

Other places- Puerto Rico, Caman Islands, Virgin islands, Bahamas.

The coolest place though was prob. Half Moon Cay. It is Holland America's private island. It is the most beautiful place i have ever been. Pure white sand, crystal clear water. Awesome!!

Yosemite, in late winter, early spring when the waterfalls are big and the crowds are small.

Roundstone, Ireland.

Dinner with Mary Ellen Mark (a documentary photographer who that year had been named the most influential woman photographer of all time by American Photo magazine)

Glacier National Park, Montanna USA.

I was camping on the west side of the park about 6 weeks into a 3mo. cross country trip. I woke up about about 45mins before the dawn and watched the light spill over the Rockies and fill the shallow valley we were in. It was about 35 degrees, crisp and clean, just enough humidity to see my breath in the air.

My travelling partner was still asleep in the tent, so i was all alone with the mountains. If i am forced to forget everything and everyone i know, lose all of my memories and can only save one, that will be it.
