...and our carrier won't allow me to use it .
We have been using Tracfone for a few years now and I know that they have had agreements with the major carriers to run off both the GSM and CDMA towers in the past. However, it seems that they have decided to transition to CDMA exclusively and my unlocked phone isn't compatible.
The we got the phone this past weekend at the mall- Buy BLU Win Jr - Microsoft Store. While it isn't a flagship device by any means, it is a considerable upgrade over the flip phone that I currently use. I can use it to navigate, the calendar app is easier than the Google one on the Nexus tablet, it fits easier into pockets than either the Nexus 7 or the HP Stream 7 (running the full W8.1), has dual cameras (which my Nexus lacks) and is way easier on the battery than the HP tablet. Plus I can actually see the screen on a sunny day by just putting placing the phone in the shadow of my head .
So now I need to figure out if I'm actually going to activate the phone as such, which means a different carrier and more money per month. Of course, I would be okay with it being data only- use data when Wifi wasn't handy- and then pay the $3/month to use Skype for non-Skype numbers (because Google Talk/Voice/Hangouts doesn't work on WP8.1 [though it does on W8.1]). Or to just use it as a mini-tablet.
