Favorite Telenovelas for Spanish Comprehension Practice

Like a lot of Americans my ability to read Spanish far exceeds my ability to speak and listen to it, so I'm trying to correct that situation. Anyone have any luck improving their listening skills by watching a lot of Spanish language TV?

No soap opera here but....I can suggest Spanish Sesame Street (Plaza Sesamo). It works for actual Spanish speaking toddlers.

I watch the weather forecast on Telemundo and Univision but never pay attention to what language they're speaking.

I've always wondered if this was a sound idea, or if by learning spoken Spanish off TV one might inadvertently pick up a made for TV melodramatic accent, kinda like that Japanese kid in Better Off Dead with the Howard Cosell inflection...

I know next to nothing. I am frequently wrong.

I used to work with a woman who learned English as a second language (French was the first), and she said she learned Spanish that way.

This is pretty old, but Betty La Fea is what they used to have on in the laundromat I used to go to in Los Altos.
