I suspect that it's the end of Top Gear. Clarkson was a man that you loved to hate. His smugness was amusing. The other two are nice guys, but they just don't have the chemistry to keep things going.

Time to start watching Wheeler Dealers. Edd China is a genius.

Jeremy will be back. Top Gear is the BBC's top show, and it's starting to gain popularity in the USA. No way they ruin a good thing simply because of a fist fight or a couple of offensive comments. Yes, he's said some offensive things...but it's actually kind of refreshing to see someone who isn't afraid to push the boundaries. Plus, the things that people consider offensive that he says are generally done tongue-in-cheek. England might be the only place more PC than America. Anyway, they will sit him on the bench for a bit and then bring him back next season after a series of apologies.

I agree, top gear is too big to let go. Hammond and May basically resigned as well. If the bbc doesn't give those three a show, someone else will. Their chemistry is too good to separate them, not that they can't be entertaining by themselves.

He hit and berated -- bullied -- a co-worker in public over food. In the USA, the producer would be suing Clarkson's ass off, and whatever network was running the show, too. Good on the BBC for firing that clown, putting what's right ahead of profits.

I've never seen the show, but it does bring to mind the old saying there not being any bad publicity in Hollywood.

Yes, Jeremy Clarkson is a bully. A very entertaining bully but a bully none the less. The BBC has been VERY tolerant of Jeremy's behaviour and he's been on multiple warnings. The BBC had no option but to sack him or they WOULD be sued. For this reason he is going to stay sacked. The British have been WAY more tolerant of him than Americans would have been.

One of the more absurd posts I've seen here - and there's plenty of competition.

Tell me, is it "PC" to suggest that it is unacceptable to physically assault a subordinate in the workplace? This was not a "fist fight or a couple of offensive comments". Clarkson has acknowledged that it was an unprovoked assault to which the victim did not retaliate, followed by a sustained harangue lasting around 30 minutes that was loud enough to be heard by hotel guests in their bedrooms.

As well as displaying ignorance of the facts, you appear to suggest that those who are successful should be judged .by less demanding standards than the rest of us. Pitiful. And you are quite wrong. The BBC will not bring Clarkson back. No doubt others will be foolish enough to employ him, but the Beeb will stick to this decision

Clarkson has some anger issues, no doubt in that. Sad really, I did like the show, and there's no way it'll continue on in any sort of similar way without him. The spin offs they've tried in America and Australia have been awful. Surprised that no one else tried to defuse the situation over that 30 mins.

You missed my point. This is show business, not your local office building. This guy is arguably the most famous British TV star in the world and is the lead guy on the BBC's biggest show. He's not some has-been or a behind-the-scenes staffer. There is a LOT of money riding on this. I think the BBC believes they can replace him and continue on with the show. Take the high moral ground. I think the reality is that the show without him will stink and ratings will plummet. I saw that a there is already a petition to bring him back with over 750,000 signatures. He's a popular guy. I'm not making judgements on morality. Yes, in your neighborhood office building he'd be gone forever. This is TV. How many TV/movie stars did worse things and were forgiven? Not saying it's right...it's just reality. The BBC would be stupid not to figure out a way to gracefully bring him back.

And yes...famous entertainers/celebrities are judged by different standards. That is just the truth.

It's all a front. Their contract was up soon anyway and they couldn't just "not resign" Top Gear. There was a dispute of some kind, they pushed his buttons, and boom.

    I just made that up.

The BBC fired him for all the right reasons IMO. He's a guy with anger issues. OTOH he did punch Piers Morgan.

Hell, I had to read a news article to even see who this guy was, and what was all the fuss about. Obviously not popular enough in my book, especially if this guy has been doing this show for 27 years.

I haven't watched the show in a while (stupid TWC for not carrying BBC America). It was funny when I watched it occasionally, but it sounds like he went too far. Didn't he also at one point say that cyclists on the road in London deserved to be hit?
Punctuation is important. It's the difference between "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" and "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse"

He was definitely an ass, but I feel like the anti-american and anti-biker talk was just playing to the audience.

He's a comedian, not a journalist. I think that's where people get all confused. He's funny, in a super-dry, dark kind of way. You can't take is seriously. I don't find him offensive at all, even when he's making fun of Americans. It's funny. He intends it to be humorous. So he pissed off the Argentinians...good! It's funny. If you have ever seen London cyclist you would probably appreciate the jest. I still think he will be back. The show is too popular to let fail.

The most recent press encounter i've seen...... he was on a bicycle. He said simply "dont blame (the producer), its not his fault".

The man was a satirical genius, and a well seasoned wordsmith. He knew how to get under people's skin. From what i understand this whole episode involved a fair amount of alcoholic beverage consumption. Really unfortunate, as top gear is/was in my top 3 favorite tv programs. No, striking a co-worker isn't an OK thing to do, but i do not think the episode was what we would consider in a "workplace" setting. Suspended, ok, but fired..... i think that was too harsh.

The problem is our society is developing boring people now. Someone can't say, do, and or even think things other than bland. While I don't like Clarkson, he's interestinqg and an entertainer. The show wouldn't be successful if a PC person replaced him.
You're just trying to start an argument to show how smart you are.
