It's astonishing the sense of entitlement some folks have.

Maybe the 50 count limit should be viewed as some sort of microagression against newbies, who should be given a safe space to protect them from the emotion-damaging oppression of the forum privileged among us!

Yes, I think therefore I oppress. I will wring my hands out of sight of tender hearts and minds, withhold judgment of behavior, marking of achievement, or scoring any contests in favor of "participation," and strive for compassionate anarchy as we devolve into elegant decay.

FWIW: On other forums they call it "post whoring" and it is frowned upon.

So form a union or something. it's common at several other forums sites.

It's perfectly reasonable if the admins say it is.

The story about my bikes in a troubled story that started 3 years ago November 2 2012 . I went to the hospital because my hand was numb on 3 fingers and from the Er I ended up in Cardiac ICU for 7 days. upon discharge I was told I no longer had my job when I went to turn in my FMLA papers. Several weeks later I no longer had a place to live and went to a local homeless shelter. I discovered that is the primary means of transportation for the homeless. Tools in hand I started working on the bike for my friends and from that my cliental grew to several regulars who i repair and upgrade their Wal Mart bikes; to buying some from folks that were moving away to the present day where I have 22 vintage bikes and still work on bike for homeless folks. I never charge labor only for the parts thats my rehab from a as yet undiagonsed heart illness and now after 3 years filing for disability and not joking I have a wonderful life whith some very good friends that are homeless still most have undiagonsed ailments just like me and most are veterans from the armed service. Thats my story on biking and it was and still is aan adventure that will end when i get my own bike shop to work on all the vintage bike I care to work on and can give some of those I know a job that take there personal life in to account because it means something. I will post pictures of my bike when i can get a card reader that works.

I can't speak for this forum and its admins, but it's probably a technical issue. The forum platforms I've had experience with simply don't have the level of granularity in user permissions needed (eg restricting a group of posters from initiating PMs but allowing them to reply to ones sent to them). VBulletin, the platform for this forum, does not seem to. Maybe someone wrote a plugin to do that, but IMO plugins are often more trouble than they're worth.

Every forum I've been on has limits for new posters, with 50-75 being common as the threshold required to start new threads, use private messaging, access specific members-only forums, etc. This is usually done to prevent spamming, prevent harassment of other posters by sockpuppets, or require absorbing board culture before jumping in and accidentally stirring up trouble. It may be frustrating, but it's something you just need to roll with. If you and the board are a good match you'll get to 50 posts and won't have to deal with it anymore.

I'm below that limit myself.
