Recreational Cycling Forum
I would guess that about 25-35% of the folks on this listserv do primarily recreational cycling. Cycling for fun and fitness. No racing, no touring, no BMX, no long distance road riding, no bicycle mechanics, no commuting. Primarily a 20-30 mile ride on a Saturday with perhaps 2-3-4 shorter rides during the week, no matter what the bike type.
I also think that most of the posts from "recreational cyclists" get mixed in with the "general discussion" forum, overloading that forum.
So how about it? Any thought to a "recreational cycling" forum? If we ever get to the point where we can be selective about which forums we view when we select "view new messages" that is the one that I would have there (along with a couple of others).
Any reaction (ducking while awaiting barbs and catcalls)?

I'd go for that. I would fit right in that forum. I wind up reading Road Cycling, Touring, Commuting, Recumbent & Women's Cycling......but I'll still do that even if a Recreational Cycling Forum started! I think the Recreational forum would be a good addition.

Sounds like a great idea Fox! I would fit right in. I would think that percentage you quoted was a bit conservative. I would say about 35% - 40% are recreational cyclists here.
It's a also a great way to attract new cyclists and new members. I would assume most visitors (mostly newbies), would just come here for their bits and pieces of valuable information and leave. Maybe they're too intimidated by the lingo that is used here by the more veteran cyclists and they feel that will never fit in.
I guess "Recreational Cycling" can be a place where newbies feel at home.
Good idea

To further explain, this might be where I and others might post pics of recreational rides arond our neighborhoods, and brag a little about some of the shorter rides of which we partake. Not emphasizing the 150 km early morning ride, but perhaps the 15 mile ride I went on today from Frisco to Copper Mountain and back, and the beautiful stream we followed on our journey.

Like the 30 mile ride I went on this morning. Road on the ridge for miles, staring at the apple trees loaded with fruit.
Then riding to the bagel store and stopping at Starbucks to partake in earthly delights!
You want to hear more stuff like that? I am interested in hearing others od to their rides! even if it be 2 miles to 100.
Annie tipping my helmet at you!:fun:

Well, with only six responses and three or so supporters, this has to be the "DUD IDEA OF THE YEAR" (do I get an award?)
So, I guess I will continue to post my "recreational cycling" items in the "General Discussion" group.
At least I tried!!

DnvrFox, from what I've read here in the forum your not the type of person to give up on anything. Don't start now.
I would have thought that as soon as Joe saw this thread he would have started the ball rolling on getting it up and running.
A "Recreational Cycling Forum" is a great idea. When all of you started to ride it wasn't to train for a race or whatever. You rode your bikes with your friends to have fun. So why not have a forum dedicated to having fun and just relaxing on your bike and enjoying nature and your friends.
I hope DnvrFox's idea becomes a reality.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I havent been on long and just started riding. I felt like I needed to fit in one of the groups. Even though I try and read all the new posts this would be one that I feel I would fit in the most and would read first, esp when I am short on time. Thanks in advance for starting it Joe.

In a rec and family forum, there should be no competition or put downs, simply the joys and pleasures and fitness and nature and relaxation of biking for anyone, including even Huffyites.
I don't think this will be the most popular forum, but, I, for one, thank you.

Glad to help Denver, if you see any threads laying around that could be better off in the recreational forum, let me know.
