Hit the advanced button and then there is an attachment button. Browse to the file and upload it. You will not see the image if you preview your post but as long as it is uploaded it will be there.

first you have to upload the picture somewhere.

I use photobucket, it's about $24 a year for their premium acct, where it does not tack their logo on the pics. There are other methods, some free, some pay as well. Find the one you like best.

Once the picture is uploaded to photobucket, you will see some links under the pic...find the IMG tagged pic (usually has [ IMG ] (minus spaces) on the front of it. Copy this entire line, and paste it here on the forums.

To show a pic from another site, right click that pic, select properties, copy the address, and then use IMG and /IMG tags (always put tages between brackets like [ blah ], but without spaces)...the IMG tag goes in front, and /IMG after.

With uploading in advanced mode as jfmckenna describes, you are limited to 100 KB, which is plenty for a compressed jpeg. It's the easier way, and others' are more likely to be able to see you picture. With free photo upload services, sometimes non-members of that service have trouble viewing. This way may be more reliable because there is no dependance on a 3rd party website.

If you link to an image uploaded elsewhere, as catatonic describes, you don't have to worry about the size limitation, and it handy if you want to link to it more than once. Also, if you link to it, the bandwidth this site pays for is unaffected by your image.

Which is easier depends if you know how to resize images and if you have or want to setup a place to upload to. I find uploading directly easier in most cases, and that is what I recommend members of my own site use.

Part of the reason I like photobucket is I do post to multiple forums, so I use that one acct to host photos for all my forum needs.

If one was to go through my photobucket acct, there is some amusing crap on there...but it's so modem unfriendly.

Notice that when you're creating a post, the editor has a tool bar. In that bar, there's an icon (Insert Image)...clicking on it gives you a dialog box that asks for the URL of the image you want to post. You can use that to post an image that's on the web, Photobucket or elsewhere. Some sites don't like to let you link to their images, but Photobucket was created specifically to provide a place to store images for linking.

Is that why pics from websites disappear after a while?

Most images aren't protected from linking, so disappearing after a while is usually just because the owner of the site made changes and eliminated the photo.

When a site is set to prevent linking images, you may get a special image saying so, or you may get nothing. It's difficult for the poster to notice this, since he's been looking at the picture, and it's in a temp file on his disc...so even if he checks his post, he may still see the image, picked up by his browser from temp. Other people won't see the image. And then, when the temp file gets old and goes away, the image will disappear, even for the poster.

The nastiest thing I've seen a site do to prevent linking was to substitute a porn image for the intended image when it was linked on a discussion board.

If I use the attachment button and then go to my C drive and upload a pick, it's small and generally requires one to click on it to enlarge.

Question: How do I make either single or large pics that are attached right after my comments? Can this be done from pic's on my C drive or do I need to use photobucket etc?

You need to use an image host like photbucket.

    Example:
[img]the url of where your image is hosted[/url]

    [img] http://awcg.com/Allen/Bicycle/X1/Side.jpg [/img]
Remove the spaces in the above code and the image will show.
