Posting large graphics

This subject was brought up in C&V If you're gonna post or respond . . . just recently. Basically, what happens is people post excessively large graphics, which expands the width of the message area for the whole page, requiring the reader to continuously scroll back and forth to read the text. I'm fairly sure Bike Forums did not used to be this way and all graphics were sized to fit the screen but could be clicked to expand. Many posters just aren't literate enough to correctly size the graphics they post, while others, who have CAD size monitors, don't appreciate the problem. For one thing, when the screen is expanded by large graphics, the ads on the right are no longer in the frame. Can the forum software be tweaked to shrink the graphics the way it used to, or is this not possible with the current layout?

There was a thread about this earlier:

Can we ban massive photos being posted?

But nothing was solved. I definitely remember BF was one forum that didn't expand the text width for large graphics a year ago, but something got changed or broken. And it's not Firefox, because Internet Extorter does it also.

I suspect a great deal is going on behind the scenes, because I don't remember people commenting on this as a problem before.

I like to think that someone in maintenance visits here every once in a while to see if there's any problems, but if not, the admins will usually respond.
