30 seconds between searches?
Is this necessary? I take it that some time lag is installed to prevent some sort of bot take-over of the world. But why 30 seconds? When I mis-type something, its kind of annoying to have to wait to retry it. Not a big deal, but sill.

Yes, it buys us time to avoid spambots post flooding us before they get seen. It's positively amazing how fast they can flood a forum with junk. I was a member of a forum that had no post flood timer, and they had a cluster of 5 spambots hit them with over 1000 posts in under a minute.

^^ Suppose the 30 second interval was changes to something smaller (say 5 sec) and the search page be restricted to logged-in, registered users?

I understand the lag between posts, but my question is about the lag between searches.

Spammers do register and make accounts. They also search for certain areas of interest.

30 seconds seems perfectly reasonable fo a bunch of reasons .... but I'll leave it like that.

In general, on our websites at work we place a time restriction between searches to reduce load. Its amazing the type of computer power it takes to perform a simple search.
30 seconds is very reasonable. |
K. Thanks.
