Search crippled in New Version

I'm ok with the new software; I'm supposing there will be real advantages going down the
road to be working with a widely supported software.

My problem so far is that SEARCH is severely crippled. Is this temporary? I just got back
from a trip where I purchased a bike. I would never have been able to make the purchase
had I not been able to get extensive search results -- under the old software.

Today when I search -- I'm amazed at how few results there are for the same search as
before.

I'm hoping this is just temporary. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Good work on updating the software!

Should be temporary. Can you tell me what term you searched for and any advanced settings you might have selected. This will help the tech team in troubleshooting.

I just searched for 'spastic colon' and 'mutually assured destruction' and nothing came up. Hmm.

As the thread information completes being rebuilt, I am fairly sure search will be working again. Right now, it can't index all of the database until the thread rebuild is completed, and the DB is quite large.

I had been searching "Centurion" over the last few days and reading very old posts... which numbered in the... well, too many to count. Now I get five results. Or three. Or six. Very wonky.

How long will it take for the index to rebuild? Days? A week?

I'm replying to this thread, because my issue is I cannot post a new thread. When I click new thread, I just get a blank page.

Anyone else having this issue?

Yes same issue. How about some regualr updates on progress? I don't want to waste time just trying the same functions again and again

As soon as I have an update from tech, I'll pass it along.

Another problem is the pull-down box for foeum and thread searches. If I right-click to paste something, the box disappears.

This is my third attempt at posting this reply. I'm pretty sure the old version kept the text when something happened and I could just go back and click reply again. Now I have to type it all again.

Let's keep this thread on topic: start other threads about other problems. This thread is about the crippled Search function.

Its been crippled since 1998. My understanding is there's no cure for paralysis.

One of the things I generally have always done when I log on to BF is go to my profile, click the function for showing all of my posts to see if there are any replies. Now, that process doesn't seem to show any results since the forum changeover. That might not be a problem for the majority of members but MY POSTS ARE, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, BRILLIANT!!! BF members are being deprived of the benefit of my infinite wisdom. Health care reform be damned. This forum problem must be fixed. It is a matter of national security and of worldwide importance.

Seriously: I know that "search" has been erratic, but now the search engine is consistently delivering very, very few results. The search function before was capable of delivering hundreds if not thousands of results before for my example search: Centurion.

I seem to get 10 results or less in searches. Not sure why. Example I used to test was searching the Classic & Vintage for "nishiki". 10 results.

Just FYI

edit:

Using googles site: feature it works.

I.e. go to google.com and type "site:www.bikeforums.net nishiki" and that'll return the results.

I use this site for a lot of reference......I'm mostly a lurker because I can usually find what I need to know by searching. I'm also only getting 10 results or less on things that used to bring up hundreds.....yuck. That is (was) a huge part of the appeal of this site. Also, yes, the search options are limited. Not friendly at all.

Regardless of what I search, "rollers" or "trainers" I only get 10 threads returned. I don't know if it's word specific or if the whole thing is just broken.
