    IE7 Problems I See

    I am still unable to become a paying member as I cannot see all of the selection choice boxes and cannot see the payment boxes at all once I apparently make a membership selection.

    The New Thread post box I am using right now is over ten screens wide so to finish posting this I will have to do a massive side scroll.

    Thank you tatfiend. We are working on the IE issue, but have to isolate the coding that is creating the problem. Unfortunately, it's a time consuming issue, and when we find it, I'd be willing to bet someone is going too smack themselves in the forehead and say WTF, that was simple!", but until we isolate the problem, Firefox 3.5.5 and Safari 4 and Google Chrome work pretty well and are free downloads. I only offer these as temporary workarounds, although I do love my Firefox!

    Seeing improvements but the paid subscriptions page is still not right with IE7. The items on the left hand side for subscription selection are still messed up with the hot buttons still not fully visible and the payment selections on the next page are totally invisible. The screens appear to have a split about 1.5" from the left hand edge and the headings and selection choices from the first "settings" page are remaining on the left hand side in the pages for paid memberships.

    The headings and selection choices from the first settings page appear to be covering up the needed boxes on the subscriptions pages.

    I hope that this description is clear enough to help with resolving the problem.

    FWIW, I tried bikeforums.net using IE6 on my desk machine this morning, and was unable to even open the home page; twice my only recourse was a three-fingered salute. (IE6 was locked up, not the whole computer.) If improved IE functionality was one of the targets of last night's upgrade, the code monkeys missed the target. Meanwhile, Google Chrome on my laptop is looking better and better- I may be downloading that for the other computer.

    Thanks, Randy. IE8 seems to be working pretty well, or at least much better, but 6 IS still apparently a problem. Did you try the style link above?

    Tom;

    Now when I click on Reply or Reply with Quote after the style cookies reset I cannot even see the hot keys to post from the resulting message box so worse than before in that respect. Also no noticed changes in the subscriptions pages.

    Editing an entry is OK and I can use the reply box at the bottom of the page of each thread page.

    BTW I did try restarting IE after the cookies reset to see if that made any difference. No difference noted.

    OK, tatfiend, the only suggestion I can make, then would be to try Firefox or another of the browsers we know works.

    Firefox 3.5.5
    Safari 4
    Google Chrome
    Opera 10.01

    This is temporary, though, we hope.

    Tom;

    Firefox is the only optional browser fully supported by paid Netzero per their documentation so I am downloading it to give it a try.

    Excellent! You also may find you really like the browser over IE, too.

    First, try clicking this link to see if it resolves ytour issue.

    http://www.bikeforums.net/forum.php?styleid=9

    That will reset your style cookies to match vB 4. Let's see first if that afddresses the problem. If not, the only other suggestion I could make at this point is a temporary shift to another browser.

    Any of these three browsers work well with the forum software.

    Firefox Download: http://www.mozilla.com/products/down...win&lang=en-US
    Google Chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html
    Safari 4: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

    Try scrolling across the window. With IE I had the same problem as the window was way too wide and high, about 10+ screens worth wide and 3 high at 1024 x 768 resolution. The actual posting input box was in about the center of the window but I had to scroll sideways a lot, and down some, to even find it.

    Mozilla Firefox seems to be working fine for this site. The only PITA now I have is Netzero automatically launches IE. Per Netzero tech support no way to work around this other than shut down IE and then launch Mozilla. Works but adds to the hassle a bit.

    The whole changeover here seems to have shown that each and every version of IE is showing different problems for users, based on posts I have read, which to me would indicate that Microschlock's documentation for IE is incorrect and incomplete. The incomplete is not surprising to me as they have long been known for using undocumented to others entry points in their programs. The incorrect just indicates how many bugs there are in Microsoft's code and how the bugs change with each release. I have been using Microsuck's software since early versions of DOS and they have all had problems. Their QC is IMO practically nonexistent.

    Not previously, but I did earlier today. The attached image is the result on my desktop which I managed to catch with SnagIt before IE6 froze. BF_IE6hangs.jpg

    Just for grins, I tried the IE6 on this laptop. This is what it said:
    The page cannot be displayed
    The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
    To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

    Other options to try: etc. etc. etc.
    Google Chrome is my browser hero this week.

    Yeah, earlier today, we had a unique error in all of our experiences. We had the site go dark for a few hrs. That issue has been patched temporarily until an analyst programmer can review the event log and figure out where the coding error is and the servers currently have a live monitor going on with a programmer onsite, on duty, at weekend overtime rates.
