Maybe it is me but I don't see it listed. What happened to this forum sine this afternoon? I was on a different computer but I was definitely reading threads in that forum.

Joe -
I seem to have lost access to the women's cycling forum too. I looked in the user control panel to see if there was a setting I needed, but nothing was obvious.

Thanks for your help!

Denise,

Send a private message to either Joe or Koffee Brown. They can arrange access for you.

This change is really unhelpful. The vast majority of men on this site totally respected the women's forum and used it, if at all, to learn about issues that might affect their spouses/gfs. That help for us is now gone, just because of one or a few idiots. (Or, is my perspective wrong?)

I agree. My wife uses a computer at work, and has no interest
in forums. I guess I can still place her questions in one of the other forums. Finding a seat my wife liked took years. Access to the women's forum helped a lot in that process. I see it as a major step in the wrong direction, YMMV.

Agreed, it is a shame. I used the forum on setting up a road bike size wise, and equipment wise for my 12 y/o niece. In looking to do the same thing soon for my fiance, hopefully things will be resolved in a non-restrictive manner.

My wife always sent me to the womens forum to post questions for her. Now that it is not available.....
She went in and signed up for her own ID. Kind of a pain for her to have to log in just to look at that one forum. She often relied on me to check the forum for her. (Yes, we talk about the "woman" stuff, we are married after all.

Now she is just waiting to get access. I fear that the usefulness of the information will suffer though since she is not as likely to go log in herself.

Oh well, things change. I am sure there are other forums available if things do not work out, which would be sad.

I'm confused. Why don't these women want to get on the 'puter and participate for themselves?

Well, between 60 hour work weeks and logging 150 - 200 miles per week on the bike, she does not have as much free time as I do to "play" on the computer. The forums here are a "if I get to it" type of thing" for her. I it comes to more time on the bike or skipping that to check the forums, I know the bike will win.

Heck, I was overjoyed when she went and decided to get a bike in October last year. Now she has nearly 4k miles on the bike....I never would have thought, but am so happy. It went from her giving me trouble for riding 2 days on the weekend to her giving me trouble if I decide to skip one of the days.

She rides to be with me. She expects me to take care of the details.
She has participated in threads that interest her, but she only learns of them when I tell her. Never in a million years would she come here on her own. Which would be true even if she had not spent 8 or more hours working with a computer at her job...

Exactly - DITTO!

She works with a computer daily, and has other interests.

However, I have mentioned to her a number of significant posts in the women's forum, and she has enjoyed reading these, and 2 times responding through my membership. Particularly if it reinforces some problems, concerns or attitudes she has had or is having.

She has no other females to share thoughts with about biking, so I help her by noticing things that she might want to read.

Not everyone has both an interest in cycling (which she loves) and an interest in forums (which she doesn't).

1) If you have questions about your wife or gf/sig other, feel free to post in the General Cycling Forum. Just because the womens Cycling Forum isn't accessible to guys, doesn't mean they can't ask a question in the general forums. I believe women do read ALL the forums. If they have an interest in what you are saying, they will respond.

2) If access is granted to wives/gf/sig. other, we expect that they will take the time to register and ask for the access themselves. Understand, though, that they should respect the privacy of the forums and be sure to log out after they finish with the forums. If we do find that the men are posting in the women's forum through their gf/wife's/sig. other's account, we will have to terminate the access to the Women's Cycling forum for both members.

Seriously, if the men are that concerned about women's issues, I highly encourage them to discuss these issues in the General Cycling forum.

No, not a house husband....Dual Income No Kids...enjoying life. I just have a more flexible work schedule due to the fact that I have to do alot of traveling, and when I am home I get the opportunity for reduced work weeks!

I wish I were a house husband! But then again, the dual income sure does help feed the cycling, travel, and scuba habits.

Well, Koffee, this doesn't quite cover the help that I need and found in reading the women's forum. With respect to biking matters, as between my wife and I, I am the leader and her interest comes from a desire to share one of my passions (in other areas she leads). However, not being a woman and not knowing what issues may arise, I often don't know what questions to ask. Reading the women's forum has enabled me to anticipate problems/issues and raise the possibility with my wife before she has had an irritation to deal with. This has increased her enjoyment of biking in two ways: avoiding avoidable problems and knowing that I care enough about her to learn what issues might affect her on the bike (i.e., that I don't expect her to be just like me). Now, under your formulation, I must figure out the question before I can learn. Given that most women don't figure out the question without experiencing the problem, I think that this is a nearly impossible hurdle for me.

I have tried to respect the value of a space where women may talk without interference by boys' voices and don't think that I posted in the women's forum (except recently to chide that galen guy for giving you a hard time). I think that you are destroying much value in your response to the disrespect of galen (and actually giving him too much power over you).

My guess is that someone is bound and determined to have a closed "women's forum" no matter the logic involved, and all of this discussion is a waste of time.

Another option would be to have a "moderated" women's forum, so that the nasties don't ever get posted.

So then,
Why NOT a private MENS only forum.
Where we can discuss "private" "male-specific" issues.
?
It IS only fair right?

If not, then there is a blatant case of discrimination.
For example, "Pics of fit male cyclists" is hidden in the super secret girlie room.
But the "male-oriented" similar thread in not secret at all.
Hmmm.
