Every lane is a bike lane
There's an "official definition" somewhere, but I can't place it right now. Basically, a troll is someone who posts with no intention other than simply generating as many replies as they can. They seem to have been on the increase in this place as the traffic has increased over the last 12-18 months, guess the feeding ground has become more fertile. Best way to deal with a troll is to simply ignore them.
Of course, not all trolls are inherently "bad". A skilful troll will only need to post once in a thread and the discussion will continue for days after they're finished. The ordinary trolls are easy to spot as they continually have to keep coming back to stir up the debate again (cue Kenneth Vaughan).

Listen, and understand! That Troll is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you post a reply.
