Whats up with the ads on bikeforums?

Is anyone else getting these ads that paste themselves across the window, cover up part of the text or photos and can't be minimized? It's very annoying. I get them on my home computer and on my laptop. Can one of the Mods check this out please?
Thanks.

Yep, that's what I am getting on my laptop. Had to go through my tablet to even see threads. There was also a popup that the site had changed ownership and there were new terms of service. Does not sound good.

Bike Forums only has banner and text ads, so please check your computer for spyware. If you can get a screen shot of the ad and post it or email it to Tom Stormcrowe (tom(at)bikeforums(dot)net), that would be helpful.

That was the new privacy policy that went into effect. That is the only Bike Forums popup you should see. Once you agree to the terms, it should not come back.

I ignored it and zapped it with Adblock.

I get pop up ads on BF everyday. They mostly seem to be when you inadvertently mouse-over something but they cover most the page and some cannot be minimized. Today one even had sound that could not be muted! I hit the mute button and then a second or two later the mute was off. Repeat, repeat, repeat!!! I have up to date virus/spyware but they will not always catch an agressive pop-up. I understand wanting to generate some revenue but if this continues it will drive me away from this forum.

Bike Forums does not have popup advertising. Can you send a screen shot of the ads to Tom Stormcrowe?

Chrome or FF with Adblock doesn't hurt...being a premium member doesn't hurt either...much.

I have no formal training in what I'm about to state, though I've learned a few things through reading.

-Virtually all of the current crop of web browsers have pop-up blocking built-in. Double check your settings to make sure it is turned on.
-Don't know what antivirus/spyware you have, but there are freeware options out there that are way more effective than the pay to use Norton and McAfee offerings. If you have a Windows based system, I strongly recommend Security Essentials from MS. Avira and Avast are pretty good as well. You can read about all three here. Please note that the first 3 or 4 products are 'sponsors', which means that they paid to get their names at the top of the list.
-BF member mechBgon has a wealth of PC security advice. He has a link in his sig line or you can just click here.
-All of the major browsers have ad blocking extensions/plug ins available to integrate into your browser. Note that the one for IE9 will only handle 200 items per day for free and will stop working until its clock is reset.

The Privacy Policy "nag" window is part of the site, and will go away when you read it. The site has not changed hands; this is just the result of many different privacy policies from IB-owned sites being changed to a single all-around policy.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.
