Turning off Post Quotes

I could care less if someone quotes me, and I certainly don't want to be notified of it. Is there anyway to turn off getting a notification of it? Seeing that yellow box up top makes me think I might have something important to deal with. Thanks.

HELP!! Where did this come from? That's all I need - one more email and one more "notification"

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Dear DnvrFox,

Dudelsack has quoted you!

Lightning is nothing to mess around with, but a bit of perspective is always in order. There were 26 folks in the US of A killed by lightning last year. There were approximately 30-35,000 folks killed in auto related accidents.

We have a great big push here in Colorado on lightning safety - all the TV channels, newspapers, radio, etc.

We have not had any kind of a push - at least like that - on driving safely - tailgaiting, drunk driving, etc.

Funny how that works. A PSA about not harassing cyclists might be nice, too.

I haven't a clue what most of those categories mean, so it is a bit difficult. I just checked to turn of or not enable everything. I hope that works.

Why isn't the default for these options "off" instead of "on?" I am sure I am not the only forum member who said "Huh?"

"Hide Quote Alerts" and "Disable Quote Emails" are the options you want to check.

I'm a member of MANY vB forums as well as other non-vB forums and this is the first time I've ever received an email or alert that someone quoted me. Really seems like an unnecessary use of resources.

Yes. I have no idea either. What are these User Tagging settings? I turned off the quote emails and quote alerts, but what are the others?

Hashtagging is like Twitter. You can use them and subscribe to a tag, and anytime someone tags that term in a post (such as #saddle or #ciclavia ) you'll get an alert.

I don't do Twitter and resigned totally (if that is possible) from Facebook. I have no clue what a "hashtag" is, nor do I care to learn. Sorry

These are found under Settings/User Tagging /General Settings. You have to check them to disable things. That doesn't make sense.

The quote notification is a useless new feature IMHO.

Thanks for this thread. I was wondering how come my status had been raised to a "quoted person".

This "feature" is really ridiculous. It is also not intuitively easy to find and disable so I thank all those who have posted responses to help others rid their inboxes of this junk.

BikeForums Staff: Make this feature defaulted as "Disabled". If someone wants it, they should have to seek it out, not the other way around.

There's another forum interface with something similar except you can see the notifications with a simple mouse-over. That is actually useful. No emails either.
