Ok, I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, but hopefully someone can help me understand the reasoning.

The original thread "Pies for a good cause (Boston)" got moved to Shameless Promotions, presumably because the first (though no subsequent) post had to do with a promotional event between the state-wide cyclist-advocacy group anda local retailer. Seems a little strained, but fine.

But now it seems that the thread about a ride that had absolutely nothing to do with the above (as a promotional event--we was just hungry and thinking about pie) has been merged into same and deleted. Can someone explain?

Apparently there was a problem that a thread over a week old mentioned a not-for-profit for-cyclists'-benefit promotion. That's cool. Subsequently I started a thread about a fixed gear/single speed ride that occurred today that happened to visit the same pie shop previously mentoned. I don't work for or have any other relationship with said shop apart from having eaten a slice of their pie (which was, incidentally, delightful--apple cranberry... mmmm...).

What's up? Frankly it's rude to keep moving this stuff around without so much as a "by the way".

Mysterious moving posts? Why am I getting a sense of de-ja-vu?

I think the stupidest part of it all was that the pie benefit had already ended, and the thread was a week old when it was moved.
It was moved when trevor was announcing a ride, as to not create any additional threads.

This place makes no sense.

The moderators have to chill out on the moved threads.

Oh, and I'll add to my gripe that the message I posted to the new thread was edited when it was merged with the old thread.

It's one thing to mistake where a thread should or shouldn't be. I believe that whoever moved it made a mistake but they think I'm wrong.

But it's a whole other matter to rewrite someone else's words to omit something with which you don't agree or for any other reason without their consent. That's unacceptable in any venue and I would expect that if my writing needs to be changed that someone would have the courtesy to run it by me, before, after, or any other way.

I would have loved to take all this up privately with the person who did the moving and the editing, but not only was I not told that my messagse were being moved but the person who moved the threads didn't even have the courtesy to identify themselves in-thread with some statement along the lines of, "Hey, gotta move this. Sorry."

Is it really that hard to exercise some common courtesy?

here's an idea - PM the mods.

if you want to know that answer to a question, ask the person(s) directly. This type of feedback can be beneficial to creating an environment that is appealing to all participants.

Should I PM them all? If I do that, do I need to individually message each of the 12 people who might have been responsible?

Like I said, I would have loved to have contacted the responsible party privately to discuss the matter but I have no idea who did it.

I am glad to see that there's a forum (no play on words intended) for providing this feedback and my bad for not directing it appropriately.

Report the post that is in shameless promotions and ask a reason. I don't know who moved it (or even what the thread was about) If you report it directly you mght find someone accountable.

and yes I agree, threads moved should be notified to the person posting the thread. Except for obvious spam I think most of us attempt to do this.

Pies for a good cause (Boston)

The above is the thread. The last message, about the ride, was posted to a new thread after the original thread got moved.
