  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Hints and tricks thread (hopefully)

I thought it would be a good thing to have a thread where people post and discuss little tricks they came up, during the course of their cycling and bike-repair experience. One trick I have: I noticed that, no matter how good the rubber insulation on the battery lid of the cyclecomputer, in the...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: sheldonbrown.com shortcuts

My Website has been growing since December 1995, and has become quite large. As a result, it is sometimes challenging to navigate it. Generally the best place to start is http://sheldonbrown.com/glossary or http://sheldonbrown.com/articles But I have also created a number of shortcut links. ...

  1. Urgent fork question...

Looking to replace my CDale Ultra with something lighter. Found something I like...the steerer is 7.75". By my measurement I have 8.00" from crown to the top edge of the stem with the spacers I want. Will the .25" pose a problem if using a compression plug? Thanks!

  3. Campy rear hub lock ring change?

I recently bought a used Campy Sirocco rear wheel to use with my Kurt trainer for the winter (to avoid having to change tires- keeping the good road tire on my Fulcrum wheel and putting a trainer tire on the old Sirocco). To my dismay, when I went to put the cassette on it, the lockring (original...

  4. Changing type of bottom bracket/crankset

Hi all, Due to having a few problems with my left crank arm coming loose all the time (Truvativ Isoflow, square taper) I'm considering changing the whole set up. I've been looking at hollowtec type cranks, and the compatable BB's, but my bike currently has the non-external bearings set up. I...

  6. Adjusting A Specialized Comp road stem?

I have a new Roubaix Comp with the adjustable stem. I see how to adjust the angle. My question is dropping it lower on the steerer tube. If I pull off one spacer to lower the stem, does that spacer have to go back on the top of the stem ( under the top cap)? It seem as though it does't need to. ...

  8. 10 speed cassette on 9 speed system

so my primary bike is out of commission, and my backup bike currently doesn't have any wheels... so i was wondering, if i put my wheels with the 105 cassette on the backup bike with tiagra shifters, will anything bad come of this (assuming i'm using the outer 9 cogs)?

  13. Real world difference between 28/34t and 32/34t (and Rear derailleur & shifter Qs)

I am currently trying to find a cassette and chainset to suit my new build. My current bike uses an 11-28t cassette with a 34-50t compact chainset. I find that the lowest gear this provides isn't really low enough for some hills and I find myself having to mash a bit. How much difference would...

  16. spoke length

I bought a new rim and spokes to build a new rear wheel. They calculated the spoke lengths and gave me two different length spokes: 293 for the right side, and 295 for the left side. However, the two spoke lengths look the same size when I stand them up next to each other, and they both seem to...

After 7000 or so miles on the original equipment, the non drive side hub cone on my rear hub was pitted. It was pretty severe, so I pulled everything apart and checked the race (?) inside the hub and it was not damaged, just the cone. I replaced it with a Wheels Mfg. cone, replaced the...

I have an Ultegra 5-bolt Triple Crank with a 10 speed cassette, and would like to replace the small 30T chainring with something in the neighborhood of a 26T ring. Anybody have any experience with this that could recommend a vendor for the chainring?
