Wow! I just might be able to store another 25 bikes, but how to transport them? I'd have to rent a u-haul. Let me talk to my wife about this. If it's stuff like English three speeds, I might be able to make a profit on them. People around here want commuting bikes.

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: Your Catch of the Day / Saved from the Dump!

Some people don't value vintage bicycles as much as we do. They sometimes sell what we would give our left arm for, for pennies. Or they may even throw them on the trash pile! Show us your screamin good deals, and the bikes you've saved from the compactor. Yes, make us all jealous, it only...

How might I undo this new CV interface? I'm finding the forum very difficult to use and I'm greatly unhappy with it. I'll pay the membership fee to have the old interface back.

  8. Sticky Thread Sticky: SELLING A BIKE or COMPONENTS ? Read This FIRST

Lately we have seen more than a few sales types of postings in the Classic & Vintage forum. While we are a bit more forgiving when it comes to trades, barter, request for (or notices of) PMs (or sent) there is a limit. All for sale postings have to be done in the Market Place forum, and yes,...

  2. Should I or shouldn't I?

Llong story short, I'm on the hunt for a touring bike for a good deal in good condition. This bike came up on CL and the seller is holding it for me. The size is on the top end of my range, and it looks to be in pretty bad condition. ...

  4. Show your Serotta!

So I just recently learned that Serotta is out of Saratoga Springs, NY. Seeing as how Upstate is near'n'dear to me heart (Ithaca, really), I'd like to start obsessing on finding a good old Serotta and of course love some visuals to inspire the notion.

I don't particularly like the new look of the forum, but I will get used to it and have already found a number of things that I like about it. I can deal with it. But I am really tired of all the griping about it. I mean, sheesh! This is an improvement. It was done for our benefit. Thanks,...

I finally got some decent pics of my Austro-Daimler Inter-10. From what I could find about serial numbers on these this one is a '76-'77. 11. The end of an era?

We all know that at some point prices on these C&V bikes are going to spike ridiculously high. Back in the 90's, no one wanted the 70's bikes, and they sold at yard sales for next-to-nothing. Or so I hear. Well, these bikes have started to get popular, and there are fewer and fewer about (no...

I picked up a bicycle last evening that has many of the characteristics of a high end vintage road bicycle. long Campagnolo drops, 27.2mm seat post, tubing that rings like a bell, fork blade stiffeners, concave seat stay tops, four rectangular drain holes in the bottom bracket, a very nice chrome...

  13. Published ERD figures vs. direct measurement

I'm about to build up a wheel with a NOS 1980s Mavic G 40 rim (27 inch). According to Spocalc and other tables I've consulted, it's said to have an ERD of 620. By my repeated measurements at different points, it's more like 625. For a 4-cross wheel, that makes the difference between 306 or 308...

A year after its purchase, and after a winter of (ab)use in all weathers, the Peugeot has had a proper restoration and got its first run-out today. It´s a 1995 Competition 500, unusually with Columbus Thron Custom tubing. And it is an absolutely fantastic ride, I am beyond delighted. The...

I'm sure some of you are getting tired of seeing my incessant questions about building wheels and such. So I apologize. :) I just don't want to order the wrong size spokes or have my wheel all jankity. I got a rim from my LBS that I don't know the brand of. I've measured all the pertinent...

I have a 1972 road bike with a Campagnolo Record 52 & 49t half step chainring combination on the crankset. If you aren't a pedantic wordy like me, you won't find this thread interesting. My first peeve: the word groupset. What 36 hole 700c rim should I build a wheelset with? I'm going with 700c rims to be included with 36 hole Campy Record high flange hubs from the seventies.
