  1. My rant about the I90 bridge bike lane (Seattle)

    1. It's noisy. I want to hear the gentle lap of waves when I cross the bridge; instead I hear the roar of traffic. 2. The pavement on the bike lane is rough and wavy. It's not damaged; it seems to have been laid down badly. Was there an earthquake or something the day they laid the concrete? ...

  2. Do you own the perfect PNW bike?

If think you have "the" PNW bike please post a picture and tell us why your baby is "it". Is it a straight up road bike, a SS, a C&V, cyclocross or something that would feel at home in Amsterdam. This is an excuse for you to post a pic of your bike and for me to shop for that "n+1". Maybe the...

  3. Fremont Hit & Run, Thursday Nov. 12th

A car deliberately swerved into the path of a cyclist, hitting him/her and knocking him/her into a ditch. After the car hit the cyclist, its driver flipped off the cyclist and kept driving. Another day in the nasty city, right? Yes, but maybe not all is lost, because the driver of a car directly...

  4. Looking for a sturdy wheel

Just looking for some suggestions. I've busted my rear wheel and need a good sturdy replacement. I'd like a 36 spoke, and I run a 9 speed cassette, and 32 x 700c tires. I don't need the best, but something that wouldn't break after one season of commuting. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  6. Point me to your favourite rides?

Looking for suggestions here; I need some pointers to some of your favourite "long" or "epic" rides, long climbs preferred. I live in the Okanagan Valley in southern BC, about a 4 hour drive north up highway 97 from Wenatchee. Pretty much anything in Washington, Oregon or Idaho is an easy...

  8. Trail of the Couer d Alenes-PERFECT!

Just returned from two days of out and back riding on the Trail of the Couer d Alenes. Kellogg to Mullan and back (42 miles) one day and Kellogg to Bull Run trailhead the next (42 miles). The section between Pinehurst and Cataldo has to be the most perfect few miles I've ever had on a bike. We had...

SPOKANE - Fish Lake Trail - how goes the new trailhead? @@@ Been a few weeks since we had news and pictures of the start of construction of a new trail head at the north end of the Fish Lake Trail by I-90. Any Spokane-area riders want to update us on their progress? When can we park up...

  10. Moving to Longview . . . any tips?

So I'm leaving Corvallis and moving up to Longview in a few weeks for an internship at Longview Fibre. I was wondering if anyone in the area had any advice -- experiences, bike routes, stores, riding clubs, et cetera . . . I was a little apprehensive when I saw signs saying something to the effect...

  11. De Ronde van Oeste Portlandia on OPB

You can view the segment here: http://www.opb.org/programs/ofg/segments/view/1728 It was a lot of fun, Brynwood was difficult to walk up let alone ride up . Just out of curiosity what are some equivalent rides in other places, Seattle maybe?

  12. To the guy who yelled at me on the Sam. River Trail

If you know, or are, the guy heading towards Redmond who yelled "Cover your (expletive) light!" at me this morning: Choke on a spoke. Seriously. I thought at first that maybe I forgot to turn my helmet lamp off when I got on the trail, and maybe I shined it in your eyes; but no... you were...

Hey all - Not sure if this would be the appropriate place to place this message, sorry if it isn't. I am going to be visiting Seattle the first week of December and want to know if it is too cold to go out for a nice ride. I want to find a place to rent a road bike and cruise around the town....

  14. Country roads are nice.....but

I love the luxury of riding on our Eastern Washington roads - courteous drivers and not very many of them which provides the chance to use a lot of the road. But, today I had to dodge fresh cow crap from the local cattle drive (gotta clean up the bike now), a herd of goats with their 120+ pound...

  16. seattle/tacoma long climbs

Is anyone familiar with the Seattle and Tacoma area, where are some good long road climbs? I'm looking for a few thousand feet of climbing over 10-20 miles. The Boulder and Denver areas have a few climbs 5-10 miles with 2K of climbing or evans thats 28 miles and 7K. Any examples would be...

  17. Cyclist on the 520 bridge...

This past Wednesday my father and I were returning to Bellevue fron U-Village via 520 and were both surprised when we saw a guy riding his bike in the eastbound lanes. Crazy enough that he was attempting to ride across 520, even better was the fact that he wasn't even wearing a helmet. I've lived...

How bike friendly is the Astoria Bridge...i.e., metal gratings, narrow/no shoulder etc.? I'm considering spending a few days at Cannon Beach and thought I would include that in one day's ride. Any other suggestions for that area?
